okay so i just finished reading Savage Garden by Lee Hyeon-sook i aposolutly loved it. it was amazing biggrin i really lover gender bender manga's. And that go me thinking would it be strange for a boy in a shoujo to dress up as a girl to get close to the girl/boy that he liked?
Like i know the rule when a girl dresses up like a boy it's k but when a boy dresses up like a girl it's a little diturbing. Cause last year in my school our school had a "Pirates and Princess day fundraiser" its not import what i went as but when i saw a few girls being pirates it was cool but some of the boys dressed up as princesses kinda ditrubing but yea. Why is it when a girl is a boy its ok but when a boy is a girl in manga people think that the mangaka or whatever is a tard ( My friends said that just Quoting ) " Only tards dress up as females and homo's " kinda harsh
Oh my i wrote so much sorry about this lost track
Thank You for reading all this and i would really like to know your
P.S I HAVE MESSED UP FRIENDS
just noticed

Where do you live? I know that the gender standards in America have a strict line between girl and boy, while I have friends in parts of Europe who think nothing of stepping it.

I think the core of it is that women have long been considered inferior creatures; therefore, it is an insult for a man to be called a woman. By that note, women acting as men is considered empowering.

We as a society have been raised to see males as strong, emotionless pillars to respect, so many find it "disturbing" to see them "brought down" to the level of a weak, emotional, useless female.

That's the jist of it.

I have a female friend that likes posing in a boyish way in front of a camera, I asked her why, she said that she think its cute, which I would agree, girls are just so cute..
But when a male poses in a girlish way, uhh, yeah, its disturbing...

To put it simply, I think girls are cute whatever they dress up with(My case)

I love what you said Blique but I don't see women has inferior.
Male are to be strong, emotionless and brave, this is a very strict ways of growing up so when we see a male dress has a female we see something that can never be cute in cute clothing. It like seeing fire underwater. If women cloth like a skirt could be wear by a man it should be created to be that ways then it wouldn't be disturbing, the perfect exemple is the Kilt. it not disturbing a all. For man to fit in women cloth we would need designer to work on that idea.

but the worse part are the drag queen because of then all man will ever feel gay by wearing women clothing.

Everything is because of some mind block build in the mind of man at a young age by there mother and there father.

man are to be strong and women beautiful until this rule is broken men will never look good in women cloth.

It's not neccessarily about women being considered inferior, just that there are quite strict limitations on how men are expected to behave in society, and almost any departure from that attracts contempt.

I understand what you mean, but I find it interesting that a lot of the things "real men" aren't supposed to do are often things that are expected of women.

It brings to mind a comic artist who drew characters with switched gender roles, not even exaggerating anything, and she got hate mail from guys saying she being hateful and degrading towards men.

I agree; as a character designer, I find that it's not so much that "female clothes don't fit males" - it's more that each person needs clothes that complement their own body. Males wouldn't look good in dresses that emphasize cleavage, but neither would flat-chested girls.

Being called "gay" in situations that have nothing to do with sexual orientation is equal to being called "a woman". People typically find drag queens disturbing not because they're gay, but because they are men dressed as women. People often find gay men disturbing because a lot of people think they all act like women.

It's social stigma.
Double standard.
Call it what you will.

It's all nonsense.
It's "disturbing" to you (or anyone) simply because you're not used to it,
or it was how you were raised to believe.
How it looks is also not the issue.
Who's to say what's normal and what's not?
"Normal" is a very abstract concept.
Same with gender roles. Social norms is the proper term for stereotypes.
