When I was seventeen, it was one of those phones where you slide the screen up to reveal the keypad. When I'm bored I just slide it up and down and up and down and up and down.
I love those phones. They are small and convenient and can easily fit in my boot. Not like now where some of the phones are the size of laptops -.-"

I was 12 when I got handed down an Sony Ericsson T230. I think this phone didn't have Snakes (the game), that was truly disappointing. So I was using a 2003 phone in 2008, the year that I learnt bluetooth existed, it didn't really help me with fitting in with the youngsters at the time, but I don't really remember ever having an issue with that. The only pain I really remember is when I first started it off and didn't understand what on Earth T9 typing was, so I texted the characters one by one. Gosh, that took me forever. Especially since I was new to this, I would just excitedly ramble in a text message to the point it'd be over 2 messages long and such LOL
I actually remember how long it took me once to text without T9 and I am mentally facepalming myself as I type this. How embarassing...

Actually, there was a cellphone in my house when I was 5 or 6 years old, because it was less troublesome to get a cellphone than a actual telephone line back then in the city where I live (there was a lot of issues with the company that provided telephone services).
I got a "personal" cellphone (which only I used) when I was 11 years old. It was mostly because my parents had divorced and my dad wanted to have a way to talk with me without having to argue with my mom first. I also used it to send messages to my friends and to call my mom to ask her to pick me up in the school or something like that.

I'm one of those rare few (at 26) that doesn't have one. Never saw the need for it.
Might buy a cheap one in the near future for work though...

At 17, started sharing dad's handed down phone with my mom.
Then at 18, I got my own phone: Nokia 7210 Supernova.
Now I have a one year old windows phone

12, got it to call in case of emergency. It was a old nokia and the line is pre-paid. Still is now(different phone though), since I'm not really a phone person.

Uhh, even I now don‘t see phones as necessary as before when I was younger,
I have a post paid plan on my phone, unlimited messaging, calls and internet, but I rarely use the messages, mostly calls and internet...
But I still think that phones are necessary, so I am amazed at some that don‘t even use a phone...
Well, I have 2 post paid plans, so costly, but its definitely worth it, I guess..

Cell phones weren't really big until I was in college. I didn't have one until I got married so I was like 24 or 25 lol. OR maybe even older :-O hehe
We have a "pay as you go" plan which we love since we don't use them very much.

My first phone was the very first Blackberry pearl back when I was in 7th grade, so about 13 and I had that phone for about 4-5 years before it stopped working.
