Well, I'm looking for a period manga with an MC who is a real historical figure. Although I'm not opposed, preferably not a Japanese/Korean character ( I've been reading too many 3 kingdoms manga/manhwa recently roll ). It should be fairly correct factually, though i understand that plot devices need to be introduced occasionally to keep it interesting. I suppose Historie and Cesare are ideal examples of what I'm looking for.

Something about ancient Egyptians or other ancient civilizations would be interesting.
Also if there is a manga out there about the man in the iron mask, that would be a real treat. Though I suppose that's asking for too much. laugh

Preferably Shounen or Seinen.

Already read/reading
Cesare
Historie
Bradherley no Basha (actually this is probably not real but most likely has some basis in fact)

Thanks a lot! biggrin

Have you tried Vinland Saga and Heureka? Heureka is made by the same author of Historie.

Also, you might like Shoukoku no Altair and Gunka no Baltzar. They are fictional but the former's setting is based on Ottoman Empire and the latter is based on pre-Bismarck Germany

I've read Vinland Saga and Shoukoku no Altair; I'll check out the other two, they both sound interesting.
Thanks! biggrin

I'm not sure how correct they are historically, (I spend too much time reading manga and too little time reading non-fiction history books XD) but I do know they have real historical people in them:

Innocent (SAKAMOTO Shinichi) (Not man in the iron mask, but similar setting)
7-nin no shakespeare
Ookami no kuchi: wolfsmund
My name is Nero
Agrippa
Mitsurin shounen
Me and the devil blues (I don't know if mc is based on a real person, but it has Bonnie and Clyde in it)
Hatshepsut
Ghengis Khan (Tho its not a great manga)
Alexandros - Sekai Teikoku e no Yume (Also not particularly great)
Elisabeth

Also these tags may help:
Historical persons
Biography/autobiography

Porando Hishi Ten no Hate Made - though I'm quite sure it's not historically accurate

Shin Angyo Onshi: It doesn't seem like it but the manga uses actual Korean historical events and peoples although the story is twisted and not always true. For example, Hong GIl Dong is like the Asian Robin Hood and the organization Hwal Bing Dang actually did exist (according to some studies although its more of a Korean folk story). Also Goguryou was an actual country in the past although the way it was created in the manga is not true. So basically don't try to learn history from it. It's a really good manga even without the historical and not to mention its #1 in the most bad-ass death scene.
