What would you like for Dragon Age Inquisition? biggrin
Did you prefer Origins or II? Favourite character? (I desperately need to talk about these games, yes)

I only played Origins, but Morrigan is my favorite character.

Hmm, does that mean you've been playing them recently? bigrazz

I actually only ever played the first game, so I guess that makes it my favourite by default (at least for now!). I tried the demo for the second game but wasn't too impressed with the changes they had made to how the game worked.

Origin is without a doubt the best game out of the two - in-depth, characters, rpg elements... the only thing that was a bit stiff was the combat system. The characters weren't preachy and depressed, even if they had all reasons to be - zevran and fenris were both slaves in a sense, but... (yes, zevran and shale are my favourite characters in origins - having way too much fun with their banter wink even if I still have to romance zev, because every single time, I fall for Alistair bigrazz he reminds me too much of my boyfriend bigrazz ). DAII is repetitive, is very limited (they closed it to a single city, and it wasn't even enriched with details - it's so basic it hurts, for a 2011 game) and... want to talk about the characters? You actually spend all of your in-game experience babysitting your team, that only causes disasters one after the other. And I can't bear what they've done to Anders. Having played Awakening, it's a hard blow. He was so cheerful and sassy... no
I would say my favourite character in DAII is Varric. He's the only one with a bit of common sense, apart from Aveline that I dislike for her forced moralism.

What I want from Inquisition? Origins, probably smile wink grin Races, that have been announced, are a return to the start that I'm going to love (after years, I always hope to have my Qunari tank char biggrin )
They also announced an open world experience, that is now almost mandatory for an optimal rpg experience smile
There are also cameos, that I care about smile Mass effect did a great job in this sense, and I enjoyed it throroughly.

I'm open to discuss! smile

Well, almost everyone seemed to hate DAII, but I rather liked it (while acknowledging it had significant flaws, like those recycled environments). There were certainly many things to like about Origins, among them the ability to choose your character's race and origin to make every playthrough unique, but I found its visual style and "save the world" plot very generic, and the battle system was never fun for me. Some complained that DAII had a reduced scope (you could only be Hawke, took place mostly in one city etc.) but I found this focus on one character and one place to result in a more absorbing and detailed story.

It's certainly evident that DAII was rushed and there were some cut corners but I think in the areas of story, characters, humour and visual style, it's superior to Origins. DAII is where the series really became something more unique and found its voice after the more run-of-the-mill fantasy first game. Of course, that's just my opinion, and a rather unpopular one, apparently. Mind you, it's been a long time since I played either game (I bought them both on PC last year so I could replay them with DLC and mods, but so far haven't got round to it). Maybe I'd have different thoughts about both games if they were fresher in my mind.

For Inquisition, I hope the dev and writing teams learned from the strengths and weaknesses of both games and find a good compromise. I understand we will once again be able to select the race and origins of our PC. I'm excited about that, particularly the opportunity to play a Qunari. From what I've seen the game also looks great, hits a number of fan hopes like returning characters and being more open world, has a very intriguing plot setting, and the long development time has quashed fears of cut corners like DAII. All in all I'm very hopeful and excited. I'm most curious about the companions and romance options that will be available, but there hasn't really been much info on those yet.

My favourite characters... hm.

Origins: Zevran was undoubtedly my favourite even before I played the game for the first time. I also liked Leliana a lot, and Alistair and Morrigan to a lesser extent. I would have liked Morrigan a lot more but I felt her character wasn't developed very well - maybe her romance route fixes that, but I couldn't try it before as I've always played as a female.

DAII: Fenris was my absolute favourite, followed closely by Isabela. I also liked Varric a lot, and Aveline and Anders too. I'm very intrigued by Sebastian also but I don't yet have that DLC.

If you haven't already, you should check out Bioware's other series, Mass Effect, which is similar in some ways to DA. Even if you don't like shooter games (I don't) or care much about sci fi, the series is more than worth it for the story. Even though DA hits my favourite genre combination of RPG + fantasy, I actually think I prefer Mass Effect now, having just finished the third game a couple of days ago dead

Actually no XD I played them a lot of years ago (around the coming out of DAII I played Origins) but sometimes I just get this need to talk about them because I absolutely love the world of Dragon Age.

I actually wasn't too impressed with the II either, at the beginning, but then it really grew on me, especially for the way you can fight as a mage (I still prefer the spells of DAO tho). And the characters are really great biggrin (the worst part is how they re-used basically always the same undergrounds for every cave or place)

Ohh Zevran is my favourite along with Morrigan and Wynne! I think I quite like everyone in Origins but Leliana, which is so sad because she is the only woman my female warden can romance (but I started to like her more after playing Leliana's song).
I agree about the monotony of DAII, the places felt really... repetetive, and the banters between the companions was really stressing. For that reason I never manage to have Anders and Fenris in the same party and while I quite like Fenris, my favourite companion is Varric too along with Merrill. Also if I admit I quite liked babysitting my team, it felt very home-y.
I never played Awakening and after playing DAII I fear playing it D:

I can't wait to be a Qunari. <3

I liked DAII too (I was disappointed by some stuff and I didn't like too much having Fenris and Anders in the same party), overall I loved how it felt like my character was living and finding their place, it felt a lot like having a home and solving problems around and I liked it. Fenris is my favourite romance and I like his character, about the others Varric and Merrill were my favourite.
Between non playable characters: Meredith. I have never loved a np character so much in DAO.
Sebastian is... well, cute? But I can't stand him. I think the worst if having Fenris, Anders and Sebastian in a party- it's very heavy party banter.

A lot of people recced Mass Effect but I never played it biggrin and I think I will try as soon as I finish this year of uni! Thank you

I definitely like Origins more, as I like that game a plenty and hate the second game with a passion.

My favourite character is Wynne. Gaming needs more cool older ladies.

As for Inquisition... I don't know. After DA II and some unwelcome changes in ME 2 AND what became of ME 3, Bioware has pretty much dropped from my radar. There are plenty of more appealing projects under way atm. Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numera.... Who knows, maybe they will get it right and it will end up on my computer again, but so far, my interest in DA 3 is lukewarm at best.

So I finally got round to playing Origins on PC thanks to this thread smile wink grin I'm not very far yet. I spent way too long just installing mods and playing around in the character creator dead

Thoughts:
1. The way your PC is completely silent when you make conversational choices feels really weird now after DA2 and ME1-3 where your character will always actually speak after your choice. All the talking my character seems to do is towards me the player, i.e. in response to my commands - I'll tell her to open a door or chest and she'll say "very well" etc., which breaks my immersion. I hope I'll get more used to that.

2. I am terrible at this tactical battle system which probably contributes towards not liking it. Even though I felt DA2's battle system was flawed, I still prefer it, I think.

3. Origins all in all is cooler than I remembered. Looks pretty decent (maybe the mods I installed help with that), intro is great. Although the voice acting is a lot poorer than DA2's, I feel.

The fact that there's a modding community is a huge plus with any games. They'll fix bugs, address flaws, add content. It's good biggrin
