A is calm and reliable. B should be either really eccentric or frazzled and panicky. A is frequently concerned about B. I'd prefer it to be a romantic relationship, but it can be non-romantic as long as there is a focus on their interactions together. Bonus for comedy.

Romance. A and B are extremely comfortable with each other. They don't necessarily have to be long-term friends, but I want their relationship to be similar to that. A and B know each other very well, and their respective likes, dislikes, habits etc. They don't need to be romantically involved from the beginning of the series.

And yeah. That's it. I'm okay with shounen-ai, shoujo-ai. No thanks to yaoi, yuri, smut, harem. Same to ecchi, but I'm fine with it if it's miniscule and not distracting to the plot. Also, typically if there is an age gap and the younger one is a minor, the max age difference is like 3-4 years for me.

Nodame Cantabile for B. It doesn't start out that way, but it sure turns into a very satisfying mature romance between two very different people who understand each other. They are so comfortable with each other that the transition into dating was very umm smooth, without a big deal/drama. You know, the kind of transition that sometimes make you question whether they're even dating. It's hard to describe it. It's like they're married to each other, but not at the same time.

@Pacific.Mint Thanks. I've read Nodame (and watched the anime) and yeah, it's one of my favourites. I agree that Nodame and Chiaki get to that kind of relationship. They're terribly cute together, haha. Maybe I'll re-read it.
