Anything goes! Long, short; battle, romance; comedy, tragedy; complete, ongoing; manga, manhwa; etc.
I don't do so well with horror/psychological (i'm a HUGE fraidy-cat biggrin) but I am willing to try them.

I'm looking for something to gush over (something I'll talk about to people that don't really want to listen). I love it when I cannot control myself and literally laugh out loud or cry. Even I never know before I try it, so don't make any kind of assumptions!
You can stick to your guns and only give me one, but I'd like a few. smile wink grin

Please include the linked title and a quick "why you love it", that would be much obliged.

Oh, BTW… I recommend:
Ongoing: Ones I count down the days 'til a new one is updated.
One Piece- I know this is one of those criticized mangas, but this is one I just can't wait for each week. I like the novel of retaining my innocence through such mediums; I often enjoy media directed at the younger audiences more, they are not bogged by daily worries or interferences (see my rant in the comments section lol). Skip Beat!- Shoujo with a little twist. I can never contain my feelings no matter how many times I read the series. I feel the emotions along with the characters and I <3LOVE<3 their facial expressions!!!!! I have always been really expressive and sometimes I wonder if mine look something along the lines of theirs and that just tickles-me-pink (like tears rolling down my face, laughter)!! laugh
The Gamer- This is a relatively new webtoon (well, newly licensed I hear) but I am already lovin' it! It is something really unique and I have high expectations of it.

Complete:
Basara- A new love!!! "Tragic lovers doomed for war" (thats a pretty good slogan for it). I couldn't get enough!!
Fruits Basket- The first like 20-30 chapters art wise… was lacking BUT the story is great and the influence Tohru's feelings have in saving the whole Sohma family ensnared me. Totally heartwarming.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama!- I love this one because of how obstinate Misaki is and how suave Usui is <3. Usually that kind of heroine bothers me but how obstinate she is directly correlates to how charming and merciless he is (its the best)!! They are one of the best couples I've ever read about!
Rurouni Kenshin- I love how the complexities of the characters are done (see my comment).
Tokyo Crazy Paradise- I really like how the plot is done and another one of the best pair-ups I've ever read about (again, see my comment).

Crap… It got really long... again… Sorry… dead

My number 1 recomendation has to be Rave It has a great story background, good comendy and also good fights. It was made by the same mangaka that is doing Fairy Tail right now. Its a must read.

This basically duplicates the "favorite manga of all time" thread in manga general. Unless you have some reason to believe that a person's number one recommendation will be something other than their favorite series...

Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori would have to be my best recommendation, though not by too much. Tell me if you've already read it, and I'll give you my backup. smile

Favorite series aren't necessarily good recommendations. For example, I read every harlequin I can get my hands on, but I won't recommend any because they're all guilty pleasures with shallow plots that only appeal to a niche audience. Also, the people in that thread list their top five rather than their #1; some people number them, but many others just throw five unordered titles up there.

My favorite series is probably Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori, but my recommendation would have been Fruits Basket if OP hadn't already read it, as it has meaningful messages that should be shared with everyone (it's not my favorite because disliking sad things is just my preference).

Fair enough, although I still think people who take that sort of view regarding their favorites are in the decided minority. Some of my favorite series apparently have exceptionally narrow appeal (based on list stats); that never stops me from recommending them when they fit the request.

This point, however, has very little relevance, considering the OP listed eight series with no particular order.

Anyway, to get back on topic (and to validate Blique's point, as I wouldn't call it my favorite series...), my #1 recommendation for the moment is The Tree in the Sunlight. Why? Because it's one of the last great epics by the God of Manga himself, and hence it deserves much more popularity than it currently enjoys.

I agree that #1 recommendation isn't necessarily your favourite. I have a favourite anime, but I wouldn't say it's the best out there.

Anyway, my #1 recommendation really depends on what I'm currently reading, but I'll go with Kubera. Genius plot and most importantly great characters.

Noblesse Great characters! The plot is not so great but the characters are...

I tried it, but the main lead (Leez?) was irritating. She was the male version of idiot protagonists. Totally dense & stupid.

True, character development for Leez happens quite a bit later on. Only in the recent chapters we've gotten a little more insight on why she's been behaving the way she did. I usually don't like stupid mcs, but since the focus was on multiple characters anyway, I didn't mind it too much. Leez gets a lot more likeable later on though.

Actually, Leez is neither dense nor stupid. She is in fact, a magnificent liar and actress who is Pretending to be stupid (you'll gradually find out her reasons as things go). She's also pretending to be happy, when she's completely broken, to give you an idea of how misleading she is.

In most series, the characters are as knowledgeable (or not) as the author shows them to be. In Kubera, 80% of the characters' true thoughts are hidden and only hinted at, and that is much of the case of Leez. You'll be really surprised later on (later on being, 'the latest chapters', but they'll make you see her earlier behavior in a different way. Observant readers would have suspected this earlier though).

Anyway, precisely because of this depth of writing, Kubera is also my #1 rec right now, but only to people who are patient, like a good mystery, and like to analyze to get to the real story (the real story being a huge conspiracy unfolding across centuries, half a dozen races, several generations, several planets and several realms).

Otherwise I recommend Tower of God, which is basically Shounen done right.

A few other series I think highly of are Gunka no Baltzar and Choukakou.

^ i have my own thoughts of Leez's character that agree with none of those ideas, but this isn't a Kubera thread.

My favorite read is Noblesse, but since a lot of people don't like its (somewhat) repetitive plot, I would recommend Fullmetal Alchemist above everything else. I've yet to see another manga with the solid character and plot development that this manga produces. It's also packed with action and adventure, complete with the hilarious humor of the mangaka.

Of course most manga readers have read it (or seen the anime), but I always recommend it anyway. The mangaka has another manga called Silver Spoon, which is just as good with the character, plot, and comedy aspects as FMA, but it's slice-of-life and about farming which unfortunately just isn't quite as exciting as alchemy and homunculus lol.

Chichi Kogusa If you're looking for a slice of life with a hint of tragedy and amusement. I'm biased on my projects. =D

Considering what you read, my #1 rec for you would be a manga in your wish list, Otoyomegatari.

Another good choice would be Vampire Juujikai since you seem to like those kind of love story. If you like it, you should also check other Shirodaira Kyou's works.

And it can be a little different, but I think you should be ok with my favorite manga too, Gunslinger Girl. It has a fairly good female fanbase despite its themes. It doesn't have a soft start though, definitely not horror, but the psychological aspect is strong.
