I avoid online readers for the most part and I haven't paid much attention to the community, so I don't know if this is old news or not. (i couldn't find anything in the forums) But what's up mangafox? Everything on there is locked or crashed. (not that i'm complaining i'm this close to victory dance) I feel like being an old housewife, let's gossip. Anyone got any dirt on what's going down?

Huh, haven't heard anything about Mf in a while, is the forum mostly locked/crashed?

No, the whole site. Every series on there is locked. I checked out their forums and the only news I could get was them saying. "Certain countries can't read anything right now. I'm not allowed to tell you why." I dunno, sounds like someone's in hot hot water right now.

Oh, they finally got into trouble. I can't say I didn't see that coming. An aggregate site making money out of scanlations (and many of them licensed in some countries)... It was to be expected. I guess the blocked countries are those with the license. I just checked with an IP from the US and yeah, that's one of the blocked countries.

Meanwhile, search for ZenMate or anything similar to that to change your IP. That's the best way to fool those blocks bigrazz

What's wrong with Mangafox? (and other sites like it)
-steals content from scanlators against their wishes (hence all the "Fuck you Mangafox" and "Do not rehost" watermarks)
-compresses images, losing quality
-has issues with publishers/licensors (i.e. hosts some series illegally)
-has a ton of shitty ads
-doesn't attempt to credit the scanlator whom they stole the work from

If you want to use an aggregate site for reading manga online, use Batoto. They comply with scanlator rehosting policies and publishers/licensors, only have one ad per page, do not compress images, and credit the scanlator of every release on every page.
Although visiting the scanlator's site itself (and donating if you can!) is still the best way to support them.

rofl did you read her post or not? She's asking why it's been locked/crashed and what's going on. Not what Mangafox has done wrong. If anyone in the manga community is still asking why people hate mangafox, they've been living under a rock for the past 2 years.

As for the site itself, I haven't visited for a long time, but I've had a quick look and everything works fine for me, so yeah. Seems like it's region locked or something.
About time. I wouldn't mind if the whole website came crashing down.

PLEAAASE don't turn this into a reader site vs scanlator battle. I've been scanlating for 6 years. I know this shit. I just want to gossip about my most hated enemy. I enjoy hearing about their suffering. (and possible lawsuit...? still searching for info) Instead of anger. Join me in my glee.

So it's just the US. Huh... that's change of pace. I can understand the rest of you peeps pain now. I wonder if it's VIZ going after them. That would be amusing.

Can you access nothing? So like, it's not only the series that have been licensed in English that have been locked, it's all series from Japan? Because if that's the case, I doubt it's VIZ doing the targeting and that makes things very interesting lol

Everything from Japan, even stuff not licensed is locked up. I can still get into webtoons and manwha though. Ahhh, well hopefully everything will come to light soon. From what I can find it all got locked up on the 6th. Still time for things to get crazy.

Huh, this is interesting. Mangafox has always been a big target of official distributors, but I'm really surprised that this time they managed to cut the US off from *every* Japanese series.

It would be interesting to see some of this success against mangahere and the other big offenders, but I really hope Batoto doesn't take the hit T_T They are the greatest....

Well at the very least I am not blocked though it would be interesting to know who were actually blocked. Though it would be a huge blow for Noez if mangafox goes down, because then the readers would flock to the next best thing and getting back it's former "popularity" would be extremely difficult. Also found this announcement on their site
Hi Mangafox Users,

so sorry, due to issues we are not at liberty to discuss, users in certain regions will not be able to access any of our titles originating from Japan until further notice (or indefinitely is a better word here) So we apologize for the inconvenience but there is nothing we can do at this time, thank you

sorry again for all the inconvenience

---- Noez

I believe that it's probably only the US. I've tried accessing with IP's from the UK, Switzerland, US, China, Germany and Portugal and the only one blocked was the one from the US. I don't think it's something dealing with Viz, since Viz is also in the UK. It might be something bigger... Dunno what would be bigger than that (and only within the US). But that's just my theory. It might be another publishing company that only has headquarters in Japan and in the US and they are trying to figure out how to block only their series to not be hurt as we speak.
