Hello! Before I start, I would like to say that I am completely new to online communities/groups. So forgive my lack of any current media knowledge.

I have been studying Japanese for one year of self-study and three years at a college. I was wondering if my Japanese skills would be of any use. If I had to rate my Japanese skills, I would rate them as...

Hiragana: Great

Katakana: Fair
Fair because these words are generally not "Japanese words." Depending on the context and terminology, previous knowledge is needed to understand katakana words perfectly. In general, I read these slower than Hirgana to get a full understanding.

Kanji: Poor
There are thousands of Kanji and I probably can only read 100 of them . Regardless, I look up the meanings of any Kanji I don't know.

Grammar and Usage: Fair
I know pretty much the basics-intermediate part of Japanese grammar.

Overall, I would rate my Japanese skills as 2 or 3 out of 5. I have not taken any Japanese proficiency test so I don't know the true extent of my skill. (When I go to Japan in the near future, hopefully I'll find out what it is.)

While learning Japanese is still ongoing for me, I was fairly surprised of my ability to read some manga in Japanese. Even though the translation was not exact when I was reading (I was reading To Love Ru Darkness), I manage to understand what the characters were saying (quite slowly )

Regarding any specific series or genre, I am pretty open-minded. I just want to test and further educate my Japanese skills. Granted, I would have to read any manga that I don't know from the beginning. I find that understanding the story and character personalities can help me get some basic knowledge.

I hope my Japanese skill can be of some use to someone.

The Shinzo Project needs a translator to help out with translation. It's a 2 volume series and 8 chapters long. One chapter was translated, so only 7 chapters need translating.
