The eighth volume of Setona Mizushiro's Un chocolatier de l'amour perdu (Shitsuren Chocolatier) manga announced on Friday that the series will end with the ninth volume. The current volume also announced that the series has 2.7 million copies in circulation.

The eighth volume published Mizushiro's April message to fans to announce the series' conclusion. She noted that a certain film's quiet ending influenced her decision to end her manga in the next volume.

The story follows Sōta Koyurugi, a young man who loves making sweets and now goes to confectionery school. He has known his sempai Saeko since he had a crush on her during high school. However, she rejected a Valentine's date with him, so Sōta goes all out in making the ultimate chocolate as a present for her.

Mizushiro launched the manga in Monthly Flowers' spinoff magazine Rinka in 2008, but then she moved it to Monthly Flowers itself. The manga won the award for Best Shōjo Manga in the 36th Annual Kodansha Manga Awards in 2012. The series was also nominated for this year's Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. A live-action television series adaptation starring Arashi band member Jun Matsumoto (Hana Yori Dango [2005], Kimi wa Pet, Gokusen) debuted in January.

Go! Comics published Mizushiro's After School Nightmare manga in North America. After School Nightmare was nominated for the first Eisner Award Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Japan, and honored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association, as among the best graphic novels for teenagers.
