This week's poll from Baniita is slightly confusing if you don't read it carefully. Let's assume you're watching an anime that's based on a manga series. It starts off following the plot of the manga, but then you notice that it diverges and goes off to do its own thing (and let's assume it's non-filler episodes). Would you keep watching the show? One of the best examples I can think of is the first anime series of Fullmetal Alchemist (which I actually liked).

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)

As long as the story is cool, then it's cool...

I don't watch anime that much, and if that happens it become the more reason I wont watch it.

I'll continue to watch it. Whether it follows the manga or not doesn't really bother me.

I'll folow it if as long as it's interesting, but I still don't like the idea of changing the world and story the author created. Happens too often sadly.

I like reading much more then watching, so I rarely watch anime. If I can I always try to go for the original medium of the story, and generally I will not watch a story I already read or vice versa. So in my case having the anime diverge from the manga is actually the best way to make me watch it, provided the new story it's actually good. For example I watched the first Full Metal Alchemist anime but not Brotherhood: the first anime had an interesting story, albeit inferior to the manga; Brotherhood in the other hand was something I had already read so I didn't bother with it.

the anime I watch usually aren't the same as the manga I read, so I wouldn't know if the series is following the original storyline or not. as with any TV show, I'll watch it as long as its good, and stop watching it when I'm no longer interested.

I don't watch a lot of anime to begin with, but in a case like this I will drop almost immediately.
Yes, it's probably silly of me, but I can't stand when they stray away from the source material too much.
I like my adaptations to be as close to the original as possible.
When they take what I consider unnecessary liberties, I lose any motivation to continue watching.

I rarely watch anime, however when I do... They better be better than the original. One such example is the manga Toukyou Kushu. The manga version, essentially, is covered in plot holes, rewriting facts, and signs the author didn't plan the story through in almost every volume past the first few. However it will be getting an anime adaptation soon, and this is it's chance to fix all the mistakes, smooth out the story, and to make something far superior to the original manga version. It has my hopes. I voted "Keep watching until it sucks too much" because if this anime by some horrible, horrible mistake doesn't clean up the issues- f--- dat.

I don't mind as long as the story is still good. I mean, elemental gelade diverged quite a bit from the manga but the animation was good, there was nice character and story development, and the battle scenes were entertaining. I can't say the same for samurai deeper kyo. Not only did it diverge from the manga in 15 minutes, it didn't even resemble the manga's main plot and the characters were very OOC. It was just bad.

I do mind it most of the time, especially when I really liked the manga/novel. Basically if it is still good and does not have useless added content that has nothing to do with the storyline I'll keep watching. For example Log Horizon novels were for an older audience than the target group from the anime so it was a bit edited but still enjoyable. Very bad anime adaptations are Naruto/Bleach the anime has so much filler arcs I stopped watching those.

So getting a totally different storyline in the anime is very disappointing if I liked the manga but if I watch the anime before I've read the manga/novel it bothers me a lot less. Probably because then you only compare afterwards and you manga reading experience then does not feel totally wasted like the 07-Ghost manga was really good but the anime began going to hell after only a few eps.

I'll continue to watch it, even if it sucks.
For example, I love Matsui's Neuro, but I hate the end of the anime so friggin' much.
I know there're plenty more but that sticks out in my mind the most.

All I have to say is, ahem . . . Bleach. Filler. Arcs. Killed. Everything.
I strongly disliked watching them.

Good poll! I voted for the second option, but I wouldn't necessarily expect the divergent storyline to 'suck', though. I would give it a chance, and if it does really suck, then I'd stop watching the series.
