Hi folks,

I'm looking for mangas that fits into the below categories:

1) Unknown, unheard of manga. A true hidden gem. (generally not the mainstream or the famous ones that everyone is talking about)
2) It has AWESOME story with plenty of TWIST AND TURNS. (I have already read Monster, 20th Century Boys, Pluto, Death Note, etc etc), but then those are the famous ones. Back to Rule #1: It has to be unknown and less famous than these, but still stand tall when compared to these masterpieces.
3) Awesome art. Now this is subjective. But i preferred it to be drawn in a more "Seinen, young adult" style rather than cartoony cartoony for the kids, if you know what i mean. biggrin

cool

Although is not in the same style as the works you mentioned, Music of Marie fits all three.

Chang Ge Xing -exactly what your looking for, beautiful art, amazing plot with some twists i really didn't expect, and very surprisingly unknown. i guess people don't like how deep the plot is?

Shoukoku no Altair -very unknown sadly because it really is very good but pretty wordy, the art is very detailed and unique but it is not really a seinen type of drawing. first few chapters are a little confusing but after the story really starts thats when you start to love it.

Bokura no Kiseki -this one doesn't have much action in it but still a very good plot and i love the MC, art is good too (not as amazing as the other two though), however this one can be very confusing, it took me reading it 3 times over to finally get who is who and who is who in their past lives because there was so many characters. but after you get them all down you really start to appreciate how the author gives time to each character and does it so naturally, each character has there own very important part to play that you don't even find out about until later. there is not a lot of manga that does this so well.

Hoshi no Samidare
Vampire Juujikai
Watashi no Kyuuseishu-sama

All three are underrated/unknown.

Vampire Juujikai and Hoshi no Samidare have pretty unique art styles and are magnificent stories.
Watashi no Kyuuseishu-sama is a hit or miss if you ask me, its always a little hard to recommend.

I don't know if these are what you're looking for, but Samurai Deeper Kyo, Akumetsu, and One Outs.

I don't think they're overly popular.

Boku dake ga Inai Machi and Spirit Circle. Not sure how popular Spirit Circle is considered, and maybe the art isn't as... amazingly stellar and tends to border more on the 'cartoony' side, but the story more than makes up for it.

I second Hoshi no Samidare
It's a real gem, and Seven Seas has also released the first two volumes if you're interested in a physical copy

I don't know exactly which genre you're looking for, but seinen/josei are going to generally be where you find the weirder (and thus more interesting) plots.

There actually have been quite a few manga lately that I looked at as being unusual treatments of usual (or unusual) material. There are also a bunch of good older manga that fall in this category. The collective awareness of the manga/anime community is about four years, so chances are very good that if it ended more than four years ago you're not going to immediately hear about it.

Personal favorites that might suit a 20th Century Boys fan:

Ai-Ren - short and sometimes bitter, but not depressing.

Sakura Sakura (Morishige) - currently being scanlated very slowly. Has a harem, but that and a character trope or two are about the only generic plot elements I can name.

Acony - just finished scanlation. I guarantee you haven't seen this plot before.

Gunslinger Girl - The first half is excellent. I've not read all of it yet, but it's always knee-deep in interesting characters, interesting situations, and plot twists.

Superior and its sequel (Superior Cross) might fit.

let's be fair, any series capable of "plenty of [good] twists and turns" will have to be a popular enough series as to get many chapters and if it's actually good, will be popular and well known.

Also if you're actually looking for twists you'll see them coming, and where's the fun in that?

For my contribution to the thread I enjoyed threads of time.

How about The Voynich Hotel (other non-H manga by this author might be worth a shot too), Yureito or Hito Hitori Futari?

Hoshi no Samidare should be a rather known series, but it's still highly recommended. Boku no Chikyuu o Mamotte might be worth a shot too (if you have nothing against shoujo art).

Ai-Ren is a really good series, so I can second that.

Sakura Sakura (Morishige) - has lost it's shine in the recent chapters, there is little besides fanservice now (I dare say it's starting getting borderline H), so not really recommended

There should be a few interesting series that are not yet translated like Rudolf Turkey, but I guess you don't want those?

Weird art and sometimes twists:
Love Suicide and everything by the author
Shikotama
Baketeriya
Renai Kaidan Sayoko-san
Yome ga Kore na Monde.
