When has a moderator ever made you beyond angry? When have you felt like they were abusing their mod powers?

Lively discussion time!

What do you mean by abusing? There are no guidelines. Maybe at some point last decade, at the most tender fedora tipping age of neckbeards, there have been a few gentlemen and scholars who've been really self-important and been ridiculous in general at least on this forum, but other than that, not that much. Haven't been that involved in any other community, besides a few dota ones and have been mod on those myself and they were generally really well maintained and close-knit.

(note, one of the things i mention were from this site, never had any problems here)

Hmm, well once in a while I get a little irked, but I've never had a huge problem with a moderator. I've never had a problem where the the moderator was completely in the wrong, but typically its when they have a bad attitude, or are a little rude or unnecessarily curt.

For the sake of anonymity I won't go into details, but once upon a time at this one manga distribution site where users could add releases, there was a certain mod who was a little overly detail oriented and picky. sometimes they would remove and modify the chapters. Not that they didn't do a good job but when they spoke to me, they seemed a little overly curt and it kinda made me not wanna help out. That being said I did like that site and kind of miss it. Good distro sites have become hard to find.

I've also ruffled a few jimmies in my days as a mod, but never without reason and I always tried to be nice about it and explain what I did.

Then again I was a bit more rigid with stuff back then and might have been a little bit of a kill joy at times, but I was typically liked. Besides I did a big chunk of the work with the site so they couldn't complain too much.

Since I have been a mod/admin before and I know the kind of stuff they have to do, I think a mod would really have to outstep their boundaries to tick me off. I've had to make subjective decisions that could have also been decided the other way as well.

@Mamsmilk: mods have a lot of powers, they can delete or modify your posts, close/move your threads, change your avatar/sig, etc. They could do anything from using their powers for personal reasons, ie a heated argument to vandalizing your profile or posts. There can be other more subjective things they can do. If you don't know, then you've probably never had something happen.

well bad mods either have an empty forum or are thrown out by an even bigger fish, so I never had any problems so far...

Which isn't explicitly forbidden. Most of those extreme things require an admin status, ordinary mods don't have much control beyond janitoring threads and a person with an admin status is an admin and can do whatever s/he pleases, because it's their playground in the end, if it is private property and not say, a sponsored site.

o.O Not really, the person who owns the site (typically the root admin) is not the only admin, and they're typically not the ones doing these duties. Mods do typically have guidelines too, though often are not in places visible to normal users. Even when they don't, playing fair is always an unspoken rule. I still stick to my original comment; if you don't know how a mod can abuse their powers, you've never seen it happen.

Or you've never had mod/admin powers and realized how easy they are to abuse. Actually a bigger issue with mods/admins than blatantly abusing their powers is ones that simply have poor judgement. I dunno, I've been a mod, and an admin who also oversees and hires mods so I have all kinds of useless information on admin/mod antics you'll never need to know.

Never, unless they're abusing yes. But as far as I know, I don't really get mad over it because its their job to do the right thing and follow the rules. So if they see a rule breaker, of course, they'll react to it and start punishing the users.

Also, you made a similar thread to lots of other communities. Are you really that mad? o-o I mean, there are rules to follow, and not many places goes the way you want, since...its not owned by you...not to be rude, and sorry if I was rude >_<

Other than that, if someone is abusing and you have proof of it, go and report to the admins. Also, if you're not sure of what you did wrong is the best thing to do is ask. They're not that bad...well...most of them aren't.

Not really,
I mean, if mods really have those 'power' or authority that @Sapphiresky wrote or mentioned,
Then, @NightSwan is cool... lol

I've never had any issues with moderators on MU, I think there's a perfect balance between keeping discipline and allowing people to express themselves here.

But I used to be a member of some discussion forum where moderators and the admin focused on tiny details, there was a bajilion ridiculous rules which they bent and changed as they pleased. When someone made a mistake in their post, the mods added sarcastic, hurtful comments underneath. One time I got an official warning (a few of those and you get banned) for replying in a "wrong" section of the forum (where everyone replied, not just me). The mods just arbitrarily decided that no more replies were allowed there and instead of changing the rules accordingly and letting people know, they just started to issue warnings for, I suppose, not receiving the telepathic message that replying was no longer allowed. When I pointed out it was not fair, they added "no replies" to the rules and pretended it was like that all along. That's when I had enough and left.
