I am looking for a couple stories that fall under any of these descriptions:
A - There is mention of a dead lover, family member, friend, or pet in the story. The story has a demon, angel, (guardian) spirit, or ghost in it and they turn out to not be the person who died or their reincarnation.

Basically I'm looking for a story that makes you think that the demon, angel, (guardian) spirit, or ghost is the person who died or their reincarnation but then it turns out that they aren't.
Example: Tears of A Devil

B - I'm okay with a story that is about a human or other nonhuman who people believe to be the person/thing/animal/etc who died or the reincarnation of something/someone as long as they turn out to not be the reincarnation, person, thing, etc.

I know that this happens in Please Save My Earth
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
with Rin saying he was Shukaido and Haruhiko saying he was Shion when they obviously weren't
It also happened in It's Two People
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
with the reincarnation of the snake not being who they originally thought it was.
In both these examples it was obvious to the readers that the characters were not the reincarnation they were thought to be. I'm really looking for something more like Threads of Time where
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the protagonist turned out to be the reincarnation of the villain in the story but the reader didn't really expect it.
So I'm looking for it to be more of a surprise. I'll be happy to get requests regardless of whether it is a surprise to the readers or not though.

C - It's the complete opposite but I am also looking for a story where one of the characters does turn out to be the reincarnation of the dead family member, friend, lover, or pet of another character but that they sacrifice themselves to save that other character.
Example: Rasen no Kioku

I'm okay with any genres. I'd rather not read hentai but if the story is really good and corresponds with any of the things I'm looking for then it is always worth a look.

Thanks again....

Bump....

I'm still looking for anything that can match what I'm looking for.

I managed to think up some more examples:
For B: Ao no Fuuin -
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Soko is a clone of Souryo, the queen of the Oni from the family of the East. So she is not the reincarnation of Souryo even though she was told she was.

For B: Oyayubihime Infinity - It works for B since the characters were trying to figure out who was their destined person from the past through past memories and they ended up being wrong a few times.

Sorry for the difficult request but it is because it is so difficult to find that I'm eager to read more stories like A, B, and C.

The only thing I can think of is Kyuuketsu Yuugi, which is a relatively close fit. It's overall strongly implied, although never never explicitly stated/certain, who Phelios' real reincarnation is, but these hints never bear fruition (which heavily disappointed me and seemed like a cop-out, but whatever). Btw nobody actually thinks she's the reincarnation after the first chapter--it's just what a lot of readers, myself included, assumed based on the nuances present throughout the series.

edit: oh but in kyuuketsu yuugi there are a ton of occurrences where the main characters' assumptions regarding phelios' reincarnation are proved wrong, it's just that they're not all that relevant because while the characters believe either XXX and YYY could be the reincarnation, it's painfully obvious to readers that they're obviously not.

Regardless, you helped me out with finding something that matches so thanks! I was thinking that no one would ever answer me...
I had it wished listed so I'll put it in my priority list now.

Maybe Yukarism? It's not clear at first, but eventually it's clear to the readers who's who.

@dext14: I'm not exactly sure how those relate to what I was looking for but I have been wanting to read Enma for awhile now but since no one is scanlating it at the moment I just left it alone so thanks for the reminder.

I am already reading 1/2 Prince and it really is not anything like what I'm looking for.
I am going to read A Fairytale for the Demon Lord but I'm waiting for the scanlations to get completely caught up to where the story is currently.

I'm not sure how Yuutai Nova relates to my requests but it sounds interesting regardless so I wish listed it.
Lessa sounds like what I am aiming for based off its description and the categories involved so thanks for this one.

@SilverStorm: I had Yukarism wish listed but thanks for telling me that there is confusion on who is who in regards to their reincarnations/past selves. It definitely sounds like a match for what I'm looking for in "B". There hasn't been any new releases for it in a little over a year though so I might wait on it for a bit more.

Easily for me, it's Bokura no Kiseki!

There are actually, at least for now,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
two people,
who reveal themselves under false pretenses as to who their past lives are. As the scanlator, Deus-Ex, hasn't caught up with the latest chapters that are currently out in Japan, I will refrain from specifying who their names are for the sake of all you guys, who can't read Japanese. The false pretenses aren't on a manipulative scale that
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Rin,
of PSME, has done to all the characters in that story. But, the Bokura no Kiseki false pretenses still exist to fool a certain group of characters in the story.

I haven't read Yukarism (but I guess I'll check that out - possibly), but the MC of Bokura no Kiseki was also a girl in his previous life. However, he's pretty much all-guy in his current life, but with memories of his previous life in batches. Everyone involved don't remember all their past memories, which makes the story very interesting because it's one big mystery.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Not everyone involved with the past has shown up yet.
laugh

The thing is, Zero-Sum Ward comes out every two months. So, you have to really be patient with this story. ^__^

Probably one other reincarnation story to recommend would be NG Life, with a character changing genders in her current life, but..., it's not what you're looking for. ^__^ It's also a more humor based story that's all about moving on.

It's been licensed FYI. Soo.. unless another group picks it up, you'll be getting the later chapters from Viz.

@tgirl: I had a feeling Bokura no Kiseki might work for what I was looking for but I wasn't sure since I haven't started it yet so thanks for the info. I'm definitely gonna start reading it soon.
As for NG Life - I've already read it but it was a good read!

@Millennia_Curse: I had no idea Otogimoyou Ayanishiki fell under any of the things I was looking for. I had it wish listed only because I have read a lot of HIKAWA Kyouko's work and I figured I should eventually give this one a try but I kind of did need a push to read it since I haven't felt the need to read it. Thanks for the push. I'm currently rereading Global Garden but as soon as I'm done I'm starting on Otogimoyou Ayanishiki even if I have to force myself to read it, this one is long overdue.

I really did adore Rasen no Kioku. It's such a unique story with the way everything added up. If you have not read Akatsuki no Fumi by the same mangaka then I highly recommend it, It's a oneshot as well.

@SilverStorm: I didn't even notice that. Thanks for telling me. I'll go ahead and put Yukarism in my priority list now.

You're welcome! ^__^ I forgot to mention, for Bokura no Kiseki, that while those who hide their true past life identities are not the revengeful manipulative type, ....there are other characters in Bokura no Kiseki that you do need to watch out for. Regardless of whether we know who they are, or, if they even showed themselves yet. That's all I'm going to say. Trying not to spoil here.

When, or if, you do get around to reading it, take everything in slowly. This isn't a light manga to read so some people may find it a little confusing if you don't keep up with who's who. wink

I think this fits what you are looking for (kinda):
Tonari ni Kimi no Nukumori wo
(The first story)
It's a yaoi.

@tgirl: Thanks for the warning and I will read it, very very soon eyes

@catandmouse: It does work, for B, but I've already read it. Thanks anyway!

Vampire Game is a very good manga. Check it out. I'm not sure how the online scans are doing, because there was never really a scanalation group for it—only people uploading their scanned pages of the volumes they had access to, but it is complete (both off and online).
I highly recommend it.
