Doesn't necessarily need a female lead if the ambience is nice and is really good, like ID.

★★Basara kinda. pretty much old japan with a different name -- even the whole america invasion thing is the same
Red River kinda. technically ancient egypt, but some characters have magic powers & premise of the story involves magic.
★Hanatsukihime Pretty cliche/stereotypical, but cuteness and fluff makes up for it. And the art. And the clothes.
Hana to Akuma kinda. also, pedophilia alert
★★Reimei no Arcana definitely recommend. main male lead is abusive, but otherwise the series is nice.
Legend character travels to the past like in red river, but there's magic in the past so idk. reminiscent of 90% of "travel-to-the-past/fantasy-world-to-save-it manga out there, but the art is cute so.
Angel Diary kinda. character travels between the heavens, the demon realm, no man's land, and earth
★★Dokuhime tragedy, but holy shit it's totally worth it. at least read it for the art lol. imo the best manga in this list, despite the slightly gratuitous reverse harem. i was very fond of the final pairing though. Mitsuzaku Mihara is glorious--you can't go wrong with her works.
A Kiss to the Prince sketchy manga is sketchy
Ludwig Kakumei male lead, initial necrophilia. overall fluffy though
★Two Flowers for the Dragon I liked the final couple in this, although not so much how the couple ended up together.

I'll recommend more later once I remember them.

YES YES YES YES go for Girl Queen. I love that author. I also second Platina (KIM Yeon-Joo) once it's fully scanlated, and Nabi once it's completed -- thankfully, I know Korean, so I got to finish Platina, and the last volume is just hnnnnngh<3

Also another manhwa that suits your need would be The Queen's Knight. Tragedy & sketchy manga is sketchy, but it's relatively popular. Characters travel between fantasy land and germany.
