For whatever reason, I've been really thinking about getting a Playstation Vita. I myself cannot really understand this sudden craving, other than a hankering to play Persona 4 Golden and Tales of Hearts R (when the latter comes out). However, I know very well that it's really silly to get a console for only two games, even if those two games combined offer me a combined total 100+ hours. So I'm looking for more and I hope you guys can oblige.

Generally, my interest in Sony consoles extends to Japanese games more so than AAA games that are really popular. While I do play those, the main use for my PS3 is for a bunch of Japanese games (mostly RPGs) that don't appear on any other console. However, I'm not averse to AAA games - I like tons of stuff, but I'm not a big fan of really repetetive shooters like Call of Duty. Give me something like BioShock Infinite, though, and I'd enjoy it.

Also, if you guys could recommend me some PSP games that I could download via PSN for my Vita that generally fit that criteria, that'd be swell.

I've set the goal for myself that if I can get 15+ games I want for the Vita, and more than half of those are PS Vita games, not PSP games, then I would cave and buy it. It's an investment, and while I do have money, I want to think about the console in the long term.

These are the games that I've thought up so far (including stuff that's not out but confirmed to be out soon)
-Persona 4 Golden
-Tales of Hearts R
-One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 (I know it's not a great game, but neither was the first Pirate Warriors, and I played the hell outta that regardless)
-FF Tactics: The War of the Lions
-Dissidia duodecim
-The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
-Persona 3 Portable

And one last minute thing - if someone could explain to me the difference in the types of Vitas (3G, wi-fi, etc) and the benefits and such, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

PS Vita isn't looking very hot tbh. Sony barely mentioned the system in E3, so it's pretty clear that they've more or less given up on it. In other words, I don't expect the Vita to get many good games in the future due to less marketing, poor sales, and most developers not willing to take the risk due to high production costs required to make a good Vita game (which is actually a really powerful system).

Ok, there are 2 vita versions, the original OLED one and the new slim LCD one. Personally I prefer the old one because OLED just makes the colors pop out beautifully, but the new slim has better battery life, less weight and better select/start buttons. It's just a matter of what you prefer.

3G versions I think are also being phased out and aren't very useful really because a lot of the online games don't work over 3G.

As for game recommendations other than the ones you listed I recommend
-----------------
Ys Celceta (and if you like it there are a couple of Ys games on psp)
Gravity Rush (I really enjoyed this game ^^)
One Piece Unlimited Red
Dragon's Crown
Muramasa the demon Blade
Dangan Ronpa (the second one is releasing in September too)

Upcoming games you might be interested in :
--------------
Freedom wars
Over my Dead body 2
Akibas Trip
Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment
Legend of Heroes : Trails in the Sky Second chapter smile
Natural Doctrine

I love my vita and currently own over 40 games lol so I would totally recommend it
(P.S. links show image of game)

Ys, Persona 4, Killzone(dem graffics will melt you eyes son), Uncharted, Marumasa (Dragon's Crown), Marvel vs Capcom, Blaz Blue CP, Tearaway,Virtua Tennis 4, Unit 13, Wipeout, Little Big Planet, Gravity Rush and Soul Sacrifice Delta. These i liked.
Assasins Creed L, Sorcery Saga, Dangan Ronpa(psp) and the horribly converted Jak Collection were avarage at best. Freedom Wars and Tales R are the few good non-psn games for the forseable future. So buy a 3DS first. Way more exclusives and a bright future! Playstation + is also never a bad idea if you own at least 2 different devices. Have fun bro and the Vita is good for watching dvd quality video on the bus. Like anime movies.

Borderlands 2 (if you don't have a ps3, xbox, or a computer able to run the game or if you just want it portable)
Gravity Rush
Monster Monpiece (FOR THE PERVERT IN YOU)
Muramasa Rebirth
Ragnarok Odyssey (or Ragnarok Odyssey ACE)
Soul Sacrifice (or Soul Sacrifice Delta)

Borderlands 2 has some pretty big problems on the Vita though. It crashes and the FPS is far lower than it is on the other platforms. I personally think it was totally worth the money, I've already gotten a ton of playtime out of it and while the crashes are annoying they don't bug me too much. Maybe I'm just patient?

I very highly recommend Muramasa. Its a short game but the replay value is high and the game is so much fun. If you like the game you should get the DLC characters for entire new storylines and playstyles.

I don't know the big differences between Ragnarok and Ragnarok ACE or Soul Sacrifice and Soul Sacrifice Delta, I only have the first ones.

While that is true, and I myself have grated on the Vita at times, Japan really loves their Sony stuff, and the PS3 blossomed into a sort of late-period form in the past few years.

Thanks for the breakdown. I'll probably buy an older Wi-Fi Vita since that's easier on my wallet, and the Vita has always looked great. And thanks for the huge games list! All that stuff looks really awesome. I was eyeing Unlimited Red, but I was initially thinking of getting it for my PS3, but if there's no major problems in how the game plays/is presented on Vita, I'll invest it on that. That SAO game looks friggin awesome, too. Thanks!

Thanks! I’ve got myself a 3DS, and while I feel it has a better library overall, the titles exclusively on the Vita can’t be ignored anymore.

Everything that I could possibly recommend has been mentioned already, but consider Persona 4 Golden, Gravity Rush, Muramasa Rebirth, Dragon's Crown and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together heavily seconded. All worthy titles to look at. Dissidia is also rather nice.

But I have to ask, where are you from? Because the availability of the Vita is apparently quite horrible in NA. While Sony isn't apparently producing all that many Vitas atm, the demand for them in NA has far outstripped the current availability. If you are living in NA, you might find it difficult to get your hands on one. Food for though.

I live in NA, and I didn't know about that. I'm not planning to buy it right away, but probably not right around holiday season either, since that'll be a little on the insane side, unless there are fantastic deals that I need to poach. Thanks for the advice, though. Didn't know availability was a problem here.

I got mine online, $100 off and free shipping from the holiday sales and being an Amazon Prime member.

If you have trouble finding one I'd suggest amazon or ebay.

Definitely Persona 4 Golden. I agree with that wholeheartedly.
Other series you should check out is the Dangan Ronpa series and the Disgaea series (only 3 and 4 are remakes on the Vita)
You should get Final Fantasy X/X-2.. pretty sure it's the remastered version

Recently, I've been playing Freedom Wars
I feel like I totally got it late, since I wasn't sure if the multiplayer was still alive, but it's still pretty good
