I assume female by default.

I've only been wrong twice when it comes to identifying someone's gender. I owe that to Lawx and blakraven66~

I assume people to be male on most sites, but on manga forum I assume them being female and people being males on anime sites. Probably cos my friends who read manga are mostly girls, and the boys tend to like anime more.

Well clearly they don't want to add the "I'm other" option, so I won't take the poll. However, I do feel strongly excluded since it isn't hard to change and also there are many non-binaries around MU.

You think it isn't that hard but actually have no clue. Please don't speculate on things you don't know about.

Is the hard part adding a new option because the poll already has votes? If it's just adding an option in general it should be simple to just start a new poll. Or is the site just designed weirdly?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude or anything. Is there some sort of programming involved?

I mostly assume gender depending on how a person writes.

Heavily based on the sites I go to i.e manga sites/forums, gaming sites (more males than females) and of course the person's avatar. I myself have always been mistaken for a guy on some of the sites I go to even without a avatar XD. The main reason why this account is so "girly" lol. But, I guess we all can agree that most people usually default male regardless.

That is obvious nonsense.
Take a look at my comment where I show how it can be done, with extreme ease.

Yes, there are tons of different categories (and some debate on which are genuine) and you can't include all ...but you can include "other".
Very easily.
(if anyone complains, just point out the futility of including all categories)
...and pretty much no one would default "other", so there is no need to include any such options.
In other words:
The list of options I mentioned (i.e. just three more, giving a total of nine) is perfectly fine.

No, they've added/modified options in the past, without any problems.

I'd have to remake it with the new options, which would force everyone to revote, and I'd have to delete the history of the old poll since it doesn't apply anymore. And it'd also throw off ongoing records of having site polls last 7-ish days.

So despite whatever you say to try and convince me, I will not be remaking the poll. As with all other site polls, taking the poll is optional and is not being used for any sort of research purposes.

I guess everyone that would have voted "other" can just reply to this thread with "other" explain, give there thoughts, and not vote ...
But would you please take into consideration for the next weekly poll that has to do with gender putting an "other" options.

I think that you acknowledging the "other" option is good enough. (for next time that is )

I'm not sure if you're thinking this request is like the "where's the I don't care option" For those, I can understand a reply of ' You don't have to vote/reply ' .
These are people who want to vote, but feel that they can't. (Then they feel excluded, probably hurt, and/or offended)

But this is a small matter .... I'm okay dropping this. ( I asked once, you said no, I'm dealing with it. It's not the end of the world for me)

Back to the topic. -
I think I may have another reason why I default everyone to male.
I think somewhere in my mind, I think every male is in love with me, and why not? I'm awesome. (Wow I'm laughing so much in my mind right now. laugh ) Why does everyone need to be male for them to love me? So I can love them back, since I'm mostly straight ...
IIII I'm hooked on a feeling! High on believing, that you're in love with me!!!
(There must be something wrong with me if I think every male loves me ... but one can dream right? lol )

So...
How come I've seen the poll being modified a couple of times before?
I don't get it.
Was it okay then, because the changes where made early? ...because given that this was suggested, seconded and clarified, all within the same day that the poll was made, as far as I can tell...

Not having the "other" option isn't the end of the world, and if there is a problem that makes it too much trouble to fix I'm fine with that, but...
I don't find the reasons terribly convincing.

Difficult question.

I tend to think in images, so when I talk to someone on the internet, I don't think of their gender but rather I create my image of that person by their username or their profile picture.

So I guess I don't default to any gender.
