As I was creating my characters, I also set up their backstories, including their predecessors. But as I wrote them down, I came to realize that my prequel characters proved to more interesting than my main ones. -_-'

My Story Blood Lotus, the main heroine, Akari Minazuki, is a reserved high school girl, who doesn't interact with many people, due to fearing of losing their trust toward her. She is a spirit slayer who protects her small village from wandering spirits. But as her past unveils, all the recent events that involved her, is the results of her predecessors' past works: Her grandfather was a hero to all the Spirit Slayers, and her mother is a criminal who defied her masters. And she harbors past resentments from all who despised her family, and one vengeful spirit that continuously haunts her...

Koryo Kunio is a cheerful high school boy, who was thrusted into Akari's world, but his involvement with Akari has interlocked both their fates. He seems to hold a special power that he is unaware of. Koryo's blonde hair and red eyes stands out, which seems to relate to his suppressed powers .

It also true for one of my other works, that the heroine should be the focus of the story, but it turns out the second main character proved to have a more interesting backstory than the heroine, due to the fact that she doesn't have much development during or before the main story.

In Vampyre Awry, Kisaki Kamio is a high school student who moved from Japan to America at a very young age. With the absence of both parents, Kisaki has been on the wrong side of society, and constantly gets herself into trouble. She unwillingly hangs out with a group of girls with also has a bad influence. But that one night, she has been transformed into a vampire, and spilled blood in an dark alleyway. The one who turned her, is the vampire Ccystus (Sis-tus). Ccystus assumes responsibility for making Kisaki a monster, and promises her the way to reverse her condition.

Ccystus is a vampire that is desperately trying to fix the mistake he made. But his motive for helping Kisaki is shady, and serve no purpose: for there is nothing in existence that can reverse Vampirism. But his coming to San Fransisco is one reason: to find the Mirror Witch.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Ccystus is a vampire that has not once suffered a impulse: A sudden craving for blood that all vampires share. But even though he did not once had an impulse like other vampires do, anyone infected with his blood will suffer an intolerable impulse during transformation. He has personally witnessed this many times, and considered himself a freak among freaks. But Kisaki showed a completely different impulse: The impulsive desire to spill blood. Even though this was no different, Ccystus believed that this girl could still have a chance to be save...

I've been working on Blood Lotus more times than I did for Vampyre Awry, and even wrote ideas for prequels and side stories. I even wrote a what-if for Blood Lotus, and a joke story, involving parallel worlds. And these two series share the same universe, so they all connect with each other. Its mainly inspired by Type-Moon's storytelling, but not the same level at all.

I've never actually written a backstory. I write contemporary fiction with characters who have lived pretty mundane lives, so I would just bore myself if I got too detailed. smile
