I'm looking for dark manga in which one+ of the main characters is mentally ill. I would prefer depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder to things like antisocial personality disorder, phobias and multiple personality disorder, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Some examples:

Aku no Hana
Oyasumi Punpun
Freesia
Watashi no... Megane-kun and Flowers of Evil also sort of fit, though the characters are more randomly crazy than diagnosable.

Seinen/shounen/shoujo/josei are all okay. I'm looking for a more realistic story, so preferably no sci-fi or supernatural, and no fantasy unless it's mindblowing. No comedy (or else the amount of comedy should be negligible). Must be complete.

Thanks people smile

himizu - its either depression or schizophrenia
Usotsuki Mi-kun to Kowareta Ma-chan - Totteoki no Uso - the title
Believers - mass delusion
Rinjin 13-gou - not read yet, but seems what you want
Superior Day - not sure if serial killer is mentally ill in your book
Goth - emo or not emo? that is the question
Fetish - people with interesting interest
Nijigahara Holograph - theres time switch, but the story is great
Helter Skelter - protag goes crazy due to beauty

Thanks for all the suggestions! smile I've read some of them already but I'll try the rest, except for Tsumi to Batsu maybe, since I've read the novel the description says it's based on.

If you liked Crime and Punishment I suggest you read Tsumi to Batsu. It's a good adaptation, successfully adapting the setting from Russia to modern Japan. I was surprised when I read it and discovered what a good job the mangaka did. And well, if you didn't like Crime and Punishment... You could give it a second shot since it's a great novel. Just saying smile

I'll keep that in mind. I did like Crime and Punishment, my trepidation comes from not really wanting to read something where I already know the plot - but maybe the contemporary setting would create enough differences to keep it interesting.
