Yes I know I probably couldn't get an vaguer if I tried. I guess I just want to read something where the guy falls in love with someone he can't have, or shouldn't have, or is plain uninterested. Something where he has to work for it.

I'm looking for something like
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
[/m]Peach Girl[m] - guy falls in love with her but winds up helping her get back together with her ex. But through his persistence and the things he does for she winds up falling in love with him
.

I want to read something where the rival gets the girl!

Thanks folks,
-S

So, the one agonizing must be the guy? Here are a few:
Evyione - Quite fits. A darker, male version of the Little Mermaid story.
Masca - Another fantasy story that fits.
Glass Mask - Protagonist is a girl, but the main male love interest, well, she hates him.
Dokuhime - Again, the protagonist is a girl, but there are several guys in agonizing situations.
Orange (TAKANO Ichigo) - The protagonist is a girl, but there's a sweet guy who likes her.

Maybe Kubera. It takes a long time to get to the romance parts, but aww man, what happens with Yuta x Leez later on is so agonizing. And in Season 2, Gandharva x Teo is the Titanic. Several other pairings are also in pretty nasty situations (despite starting like a comedy, this series is surprisingly creative at messing with its characters).

Kimi wa Pet fits your request. smile
The one I'm reading at the moment Oishii Kankei is exactly vise versa (girl falls in love with a guy who has already a girlfriend). Strongly recommend it if you like cooking stories.

I can't see your spoiler since I'm on my phone, so apologies if you mentioned any of these there.

Hachimitsu to Clover
Dengeki Daisy
Hana Yori Dango
Sennen no Yuki
Kitchen Princess (this one I think it more suitable for younger girls, I wouldn't recommend it if you're older)
If you're okay with incest stories, Flowers of Evil and Koi Kaze.

I think that you should try the works of Go Ikeyamada, for example Moe Kare!!, it's completely scanlated,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it has a love triangle similar to Peach Girl, the girl is in love with a nice guy and during the story they begin dating, but bad things happen and she ends up with a womanizer (a "good" bad-guy) that was in love with her from the start and helped her when she needed.

Also you could try Suki desu Suzuki-kun!!, Uwasa no Midori-kun!! and Kobayashi ga Kawai Sugite Tsurai!!.

I highly recommend Tonari no Atashi. It's a great manga, and fits what you're looking for, especially if you like feeling agonized over the rival's situation.

I'm not sure how it will turn out yet, but Ao Haru Ride is definitely agonizing.

maybe Dice (YUN Hyunseok), the MC likes a girl that already has a boyfriend. but that is only part of the storyline, it also has a lot of psychological and supernatural stuff too.

Akagami no Shirayukihime -the male MC does fall in love with the girl first but it becomes mutual pretty soon after he confesses to her, but the problem is that he is a prince and she is a commoner and his older brother does not agree with their relationship, so the MC has to work pretty hard to get their relationship accepted by his family.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!
I was really looking forward to reading something where the male protagonist really has to work hard to get the girl, since I've read a lot of stuff where women patiently wait or have to bend of backwards for the guys they love.
I'm so excited!
Many thanks!

-I second Orange (Takano Ichigo). The guy's story physically pains me.
-You could try watching Nagi no Asukara. The manga isn't as good as the anime, which has amazing scenery porn and music.
-Could try Ciel
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Due to some circumstances, MC is really pissed with the guy. There's a bunch of agonizing love stories with other characters as well.

Watch Byousoku 5 Centimeter, and then read the manga.

I'm gonna put down 17-Sai, Kiss to Dilemma. The girl is dense and even when she starts catching on, it's very clear to the readers he loves her waaaay more than she realizes. Pining is what this guy does best. Hahaha. It's debatable if he works hard to get the girl though.
