Hello everyone.

I am facing a very hurtful break-up at the moment and trying to find my ways to cope with it and heal. I usually read the typical shoujo-romance manga, but I can't face those anymore.

It may sound minor to you, but I am trying to change..even in manga. Thats why I look for good realistic josei manga with a good female lead that doesnt see 'having a good-looking/romantic boyfriend' as the major goal. At the moment I would also appreciate a break-up manga (joseii) with the female lead recovering and trying her best to find herself. Just someone whom I can empathise with.

Please have my thanks, it is helpful to me even if it sounds ridiculous for others.

I can't think of any series like those immediately, but I'll recommend a few other series that have female protagonists and that may cheer you up a bit:

Aqua and its sequal Aria.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

These are some of my top stress-relieving, 'enjoy the moment' series.

At the moment, joseis I can think of:

Cappuccino is about a young woman who discovers that a living together relationship isn't always lovey-dovey. Bittersweet end.

Cherish, 4-5 chps, young man in love with his work partner --a special woman.

Those are somehow realistic, I'll edit if I can find more.

Ehh... I can't think of anything off the top of my head that's with breakup... Just gonna randomly suggest a few.

Magic
Diff sort of love than cliche shoujos. Goes past age, relations, and even memory.

Jotei
Drama better, really. Putting femininity to good use, a real women's career.

Eien no With
Really sweet and makes you cry. The world isn't as bad as it seems type of thing.

Kimi wa Petto
A slightly different approach. Um, well, yea. I really don't know about this... You'll either love it or you'll hate it right now. I watched the drama personally. Manga only took a peek so dunno. It does start out with her recovering from a breakup though.

Try these perhaps?

You may want to ignore me though, since for me stress relieving, well, is a bit extreme and tends to go the opposite ways one time vs another. My own experience obviously wouldn't be much help.

We all pick mangas according to our moods, nothing ridiculous. Good luck, men aren't everything in the world.

Sorry to hear you're feeling down. Maybe these can help:

Suppli (Dealing with a breakup after a long-term relationship and submerging herself in her work).
3 am Dangerous Zone (Completely dedicating herself to her career while juggling other aspects of life including breakups).
Mielino Kashiwagi (Deals with why people breakup).
Talking About... (The trials and tribulations of romance and dating from three viewpoints).
Sing Yesterday for Me (This series is seinen but deals with romance and modest characters that can't or don't act on their feelings).

Hope you like some of these and that you feel better.

I totally recommend Ashita no Ou-sama
The protagonist tries very hard to become a member of a theater troupe, great character development. Romance is no big deal in the plot.

Watashi ga Itemo Inakutemo -- not josei but just as mature. The protagonist feels alone, unloved, directionless, has just gotten out of a relationship only to stumble into unrequited love
Kechonpa -- very hopeless love that helps her but can't alter her convictions and doesn't define her actions
Yesterday, Yes a Day
Cousin
Futago

Second 3 am Dangerous Zone
