I just got down with a reread of World only God Knows and I was wondering if anyone had actually played an galge games in English and if they even made galge games in English.

And related to that, for those who have played them before, are there any fun english ones you would recommend?

Quick tip, galge is short for gal game with ge being short for game therefore galge game is redundant.
Many visual novels are categorized as galge and if we are talking visual novels there are quite a few that have been translated into english. Although many of the great ones are less focused on dating the girls and more so on telling a good story that features romance. As for recommendations heres a few:

-the type moon stuff, fate/stay night and tsukihime
-the infinity series, ever17, remember11, never7
-Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo
-g-senjou no maou
-kira kira
-kara no shoujo
-muv luv
-steins gate
-umineko
-rewrite
-grisaia no kajitsu
-comyu
-yume miru kusuri

You can find info on vn's at vndb.org, also check out fuwanovel.org

Edit: Also, I better warn you that some of those are eroge. In otherwords they contain hentai sex scenes, but that isn't the focus. Some english patches even add an option to turn those scenes off as they are rarely important to the story.

I don't have any experience playing dating sim's with gameplay elements specifically, but if you are okay with visual novels where the focus is more on the girl's personal stories and the romantic relationships rather than a grand overarching story these should fit the bill:

-Sharin no Kuni and Grisaia no Kajitsu are about the protagonist helping the girls with their problems, and involve plenty of relationship development between the protagonist and the girls. Warning that both of them are also eroge, if that matters to you.

The way these and most VN's work is you read the story and dialogue in the text box over character sprites and background images with music and voice acting (usually the protagonist is unvoiced). Along the way choices will pop up that affect the direction of the story and which girl you will end up with. Some VN's have lots of choices and some have few, there are walkthroughs you can use if you like. The plot structure is usually a common route first that sets up the story and characters. Then the heroine routes that branch off depending on your choices. Then good, bad or normal endings, and finally an unlockable true route (although neither of these has a true route.)

vndb is a database of visual novels and does not host patches. It includes translated and untranslated visual novels and the languages they are available in is indicated. If you sort the list by rating or popularity most of the good translated VN's will appear near the top of the list. Fuwanovel has pre-patched DL's which makes things simple but grisaia has been taken down from there as it has been licensed by Sekai Project. I'm sure you can find it with a little googling if you try. English patches will be on the translators websites or you can buy officially translated VN's from places like mangagamer or jast. Most VN's will also require your computer to be in Japanese locale to run properly. Here's how: http://fuwanovel.org/faq/setting-windows-to-japanese-locale

Edit: Now that I think about it there are a few console games I've played that could probably be considered galge, Persona 3 and 4, Ar tonelico 2 and Catherine. Persona and Ar tonelico mix VN/galge aspects with jrpg's. Catherine mixes with a puzzle game. Persona has social links where you build relationships with people to gain personas. Ar tonelico has a few choices and multiple endings with different heroines and a system where you dive into the heroines minds to create magic. Catherine has a chaos/law meter that determines your ending. All of these have a lot of reading dialogue similar to a VN. Persona and Ar tonelico are ps2 games but you could use an emulator to play on pc. Ar tonelico 2 actually has a fan retranslation patch that is in beta right now. Catherine is on Xbox 360 and ps3.

I dislike 99% of hentai but i talk about 4 surprisingly readable eroge with zero adaptations to their name in the link and donĀ“t want to transfer the text over. It starts with my 3rd post.
Play the Virtues Last Reward/Hotel Dusk/Phoenix Wright Series or Snatcher/Policenauts or the unfinished remember 11 for some high quality writing with no sex.
The Persona 2 game(s) are the best written Atlus ones but no dating.

What, no love for Katawa Shoujo? It's basically a doujin galge written by all native English speakers on one of the common game engines. Good music, not bad plots, and does a good job of not having the usual total doormat main character.

it is a dating sim
go to fuwanovel.org
and look for love plus
im pretty sure they have links to a translated version of it

other dating sims i like
Tokimeki memorial
the first ones ... it was the first dating sim i bought[bought the super nes version]

Kitty on your lap for psx is awesome but...if you have problems with the whole "loli" theme
you might not like it

if you dont mind games with no erotic scenes and you are the female(that has to get the guy) then i recommend these games:
(theyre all for the psp but they work fine on the pc emulator. ppsspp is the best emulator to use)
Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3rd Story
Hakuouki
Sweet Fuse: At Your Side
and one more which isnt really about dating but has some in it is:
Persona 3

now i know this is weird but only play the psp versions of these games. if the title has a non-psp version dont play it. the psp versions have extra content and persona 3 even has twice as much content and better quality compared to the other version and tokimeki has to be played sideways with terrible graphics for the ds version, on hakuouki im not 100% sure what the difference is but the only other versions for it don't have emulators so they cant be played on pc.

EDIT: in persona 3 you should finish all of the being a guy routes and then play as the female or it wont make as much sense but the female is just as much fun as the male and the female is only available on the psp version(thats why i said it has twice as much content because it literally has 2 different games in 1)
