This week's poll was suggested by FormX. Of the given list of possible moods and tones and a series, which is your favorite?

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: If you were a mangaka, which demographic would you draw / write for?
Choices:
Shoujo - votes: 1619 (15.7%)
Shounen - votes: 2032 (19.7%)
Josei - votes: 954 (9.3%)
Seinen - votes: 2774 (26.9%)
Hentai - votes: 674 (6.5%)
Yaoi - votes: 1768 (17.1%)
Yuri - votes: 489 (4.7%)
There were 10310 total votes.
The poll ended: March 7th 2015

Wasn't expecting seinen to win... I guess more of you guys prefer writing for a more mature audience rather than a young audience?

Well, I see that shoujo, shounen and yaoi aren't that far behind seinen.

As for this week's poll, I think I prefer dark & foreboding.
I like a sad story which is also pretty tense and scary.

Since that's not an option, I went with dark/sad.

I went with Serious / straight as "dark" already needs to be that and my choice thus falls under a bigger umbrella. I can only name you a few dozen comedies (in any medium) that managed to make me laugh (as that is nearly impossible) besides entraining so i secretly admire escapist entertainment that talks to me but i still would prefer to read/watch a complicated and though provoking piece any day of the weak. Pure escapist is not my cup of tee so that should explain my reading list too. My favorite manga by demographic reflect that attitude too: Berserk, Hachimitsu to Clover (it turns out to be very serious after a point), Mars and Rurouni Kenshin. I guess that i am not fun at parties is the takeaway here?

The 2 uplifting versions will win with a landslide as that is the way the field of entertainment works. There is a reason why Arrested Development struggled as it did and Big Bang Theory is cleaning up the charts in the sitcom field. Or why anyone knows the name Spielberg (my favorite again here is Schindler's List) but most of you shouldn´t be able to list more then 3 Stanley Kubrick (the Master of Masters) movies if you even know the name.

This weeks poll is rather difficult, I like them all. So what option do I have. I went with dark/sad because I like dark series a bit more. However it doesn't need to be sad. roll eyes

Give me tension. Give me so much tension that I start having heart palpitations. I don't read manga for escapism. I like when a manga leaves a strong impression on me.

I think one aspect of a good manga is being able to incorporate a small amount of all of these while focusing on one tone. Having nothing but one tone will eventually get stale after a while, even if it is someone's favorite genre. For example, while I enjoyed reading Ranma 1/2, I would sometimes get frustrated with the manga when a nice dramatic scene or a serious moment end up getting ruined by someone doing something silly....usually, culminating with Akane beating up Ranma.

As for my preference, I prefer Lighthearted/Comedy series or some Serious/Straight ones, depending on what I want on a particular day.

I prefer a mix of moods, from light-hearted to deadly serious. For example some of my favorites have that range: Fruits Basket, Kimi wa Pet, Sakamichi no Apollon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter.

I chose 'Tension / drama ' because conflict drives plot. If you don't have any tension or conflict, you have a boring story no matter the mood.

“ Serious / Straight ” is only second to “ Fearful / Foreboding ” for me ~!

I think a lot of people misread the question "Which mood in a series..." and not which type of series.

So I picked light/comedy. I absolutely hate reading pure comedy series but love good serious/dark/sci-fi/etc stories that are not based on comedy but have funny or lighthearted moments in them.

Same thing crossed my mind. I get the difference between happy and lighthearted but when you place lighthearted and then in another option 'feel-good' seems rather ambiguous.

Leaving that aside, i would say 'lighthearted/comedy'

Lighthearted/comedy for me, by far. Actually, almost everything on my currently reading list is lighthearted or has a lot of comedy.

I like feeling happy and good when reading or watching a series so I went with the self-explanatory choice of Happy / feel-good.

Tension and drama. I like being reeled into an intense story and go through the motions of highs and lows with the characters. mix in some slice of life (ironic cause of the "drama" tag) but I'll take it. Of course sprinkle in some of the other categories will make for a better story. Essentially we can't isolate each on their own either.

@KJacket
Good point. though I didn't cast my vote with "mood" in mind because mood is such a relative thing. The answer would simply be "it depends".
