When I first started reading manga, I read a ton of those HWANG Mi Ri mangas mainly because I like the art. But after about my 7th or 8th one, I couldn't read them anymore.

The reason I gave them up is:

1. Every Story is about the same, just with a different set of circumstances.

2. The male character is always the same, aloof, doesn't like the girl or pretends not too anyway, he's always a bad ass fighter, usually a jang, usually really rich and so on.

3. The Romance is always artificially frozen till the very end. The story is always 10 - 20 volumes and there's never any progress until the end. The plot just goes back and forth like a ping pong ball. I think they would be a lot better if they were half the length.

4. The characters are so dumbed down. I mean, they are flat out stupid. The decisions they make are unbelievable. The conflicts could very simply be cleared up but because neither one of the characters say anything, so therefore nothing really happens.

5. The Endings, even though they usually end ok, some of the endings go the gag route which is something I don't care for after 15 volumes, but overall, I find the endings weak.

In my opinion, I just think it's a shame because some of the artwork is just beautiful, I just wish they had better writers working for them in order to create something besides these canned formulated stories they throw together.

The only Hwang Mi Ri's manhwa worth to read is Hot Blooded Girl. Unique story line.
The rest are.. stupid. Huff

I've relished some to the last page and others I gave up a couple chapters in.

Personally I think the Hwang Mi-Ri art style is mediocre at best. I find that the figures are volumeless and stiff. They're dressed in clumsy, exaggerated clothing. The hairstyles are outdone. It's not excruciatingly bad but it's not appealing either. Quality of the art sometimes vary among series but the insufferable costumes and hairstyles seem to be pretty consistent for each work. Some of Hwang Mi-Ri's best art work in my opinion was in the historical fiction stories like Legend of the Nereid or even some of her slightly newer works.

Many of the story plots and characters are as you say "out of a can," but I don't dislike this. She (?) uses a lot of clichés and sometimes I enjoy them and sometimes don't. Her heroines are usually blunt, gluttonous fighters. Again, sometimes I enjoy her reused character templates and sometimes I hate them. So really, regardless to the "true artistic quality" of her recycled story lines and characters I think that her works are worth a read. I thought Hot Blooded Girl was riddled with ridiculous k-drama clichés but in the end I really enjoyed it.

Bottom line is, I think Hwang Mi-Ri has some decent works but I can sympathize if one were to choose to avoid her work due to the shifty quality of her plots/art. eyes

Terrible art, characters, and story
I wish they would stop making manhwa look bad. A lot of people don't read manhwa because they read something by HWANG Mi Ri first.

But it's kinda incredible how so many artists in the HWANG Mi Ri/Han Yu Rang groups have enough patience to draw the same recycled plots over and over again.
