The two boys fight with each other, and their female childhood friends try to break up the fight. After wards, they all becomes friends and hang out collectively. Each respective pair (Boy A-Girl A, Boy B-Girl B) always gets mistaken for couples, though they quickly deny it. Boy A is shown to have feelings for Girl A (aka his childhood friend). However, Boy B has been drawing her attention lately. One night, Boy A creeps into her bedroom to visit her and in the darkness, she mistakes him for Boy B. Boy A kisses her, but she doesn't really respond because that's something they did as little kids. Boy B asks her to the festival and she says yes. She wears a really old yukata (had to clear out the moth balls) and hopes Boy B doesn't notice the smell. They hug and both confess. Meanwhile, Boy A, who has been saving up money through a part time job (I think at a gas station?) for Girl A's gift. He's hurrying home to meet her, and then gets hit by a vehicle. Girl B phones Girl A, and the newly formed couple (Girl A-Boy B) rushes to the hospital. Boy A is already dead. Girl B notices immediately that they came together and are dressed for nighttime-rendezvous-festival-date. She hysterically blames Girl A for Boy A's death, revealing that she, too, had a crush on Boy A. Girl A is really guilty. She and Boy B are devastated, breaking up and never talking to each other again. Girl A nostalgically wonders why she never noticed Boy A's feelings. The End.
Read this a long time ago, and it gave me such strong feels, though the Girl A-Boy B relationship went so unresolved because of the sudden death. I'm hoping for the title. I can't remember if it was a one-shot, but it was definitely short; no more than three chapters, perhaps. If it helps, I remember Boy A was light haired and Boy B was dark-haired. Help me out
