Okay, first time posting anything here, but this is pretty much one of the main reasons I registered so...
I'm looking for a new manga to read, but I'm pretty picky.

Here are my basic requirements:

NO'S:
NO RAPE!
No Harm to Pregnant Women (It's sad that this even needs to be said, but I've seen to many of criminal investigative shows nowadays to leave it out).
No Yao (I don't have anything against it, I just don't care for it).
No Tragic Endings (Tragic backgrounds are okay as long as it all ends well/is overcome and "healed").
No Adultery/"Open Relationships" (Totally against my nature and reading it actually gives me a head ache!).

YES'S:
Yes Romance (Not a major requirement, but I find stories tend to have more depth with it).
Yes Complex Characters (I hope that's clear because I just can't think an accurate way to explain).
Yes Closure (IE: When the story ends, if it's ended, its not just a quick wrap up because it got cut or something. "En Passant" Good, "Ware wa Ken-ou!! (which just stopped either scanlating or all together 2009) Bad.)
Yes Plot Line/Story (Perfect example of "No Plot Line" being "Shinshi na Meets Girl")
Yes Recognizable Art
Yes Any Genre (Romance, Action, Mystery, even a little Horror, I'll read it as long as it meets the other requirements).
Yes Translated (English is preferable, but I can read Spanish and Latin and Gaelic if necessary).
Yes Taboo/Unconventional Romances (Not required, but outside of Yao, I'll even say I prefer them).

Thanks! Probably should have put FMA on my read list, but I'll definitely try the others!

Okay, just finished reading "My Girl", and I lost track of the number of times I almost cried. Wonderful story. I'm always looking for more to read, so please keep the suggestions coming! Eternal thanks here!

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro All time favourite manga. Though it is a detective/mystery type, there is no rape nor rape cases. Also void of romance, but focuses heavily on non-romantic relationships, especially between the main characters, and in my opinion, even though I greatly favour romance mangas, more than makes up for the lack of romance. Contains a handful of complex characters, though not apparent until the 1/3rd to 1/2 way mark, as that is when the character development truly hits its peak. The manga also breaks its episodic nature around the 1/3rd to 1/2 way mark and develops more of the storyline from there. Overall, though a bit biased, I strongly recommend Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro as Neuro and Yako are some of the most memorable characters, and the growth of either individuals is something that you can't pass up.

Pandora Hearts A bit on the tragic side, but the ending rounded up the manga fairly well (don't want to spoil the manga, as it is the epitome of plot twists). Definitely contains complex characters and was probably the most defining point of Pandora Hearts. Solid plotline and progression, though there is a lack of solid romance (a lot of the romance are either extremely minor or implied). If you enjoy plot twists and a roller coaster ride of feels, then Pandora Hearts is a great pick up.

Basara Figured I should drop an actual romance manga. Great manga from start to finish. The story had fair pacing, an amazingly (really emphasizing amazing here) complex character cast, and great art (considering the fact of when it was published). Some might find it offputting, but you quickly get used to it and I find it rather fitting for the theme/genre of the manga. On the other hand, there is a particular scene that COULD be classified as rape, but, again, the characters are vastly complex and it was a complex situation and I really cannot explain it without spoiling it but I do ask you give it a chance, as, again, it was a complex situation.

All mangas aforementioned are also complete and fully translated into English, with varying lengths. Basara and Pandora Hearts are floating around 100 chapters and Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro at 200.

Sorry for the long post.

you could make your list public because frankly looking up every series (without a link even) to see if i read it and how i rank it is a chore

Yeah, sorry my list of reads is so long. Like I said, I just registered for this site and I'm still struggling to figure everything out. I'll try to make a reading list with links or whatever it is, in case there is anyone out there with my tastes that might want to compare. And don't worry about long posts or anything, I'm just over joyed with all the suggestions. Please keep them coming!

Okay, for those who wanted it I just made a public list named "Great Reads" in my profile that contains almost everything on my above listed reads list as well as a couple of the recommendations I've already gotten and read and a few I remembered to add in. All of them meet my above listed requirements and all of them have been rated with recommendation in mind. As always, please keep the recommendations coming!

with romance, complexity of characters is debatable, not all are happy endings
Koe no Katachi kid falls for deaf girl he bullied
Sakamichi no Apollon friendship and romance
Onani Master Kurosawa twisted tale of revenge and redemption. some romance too
Nodame Cantabile dramedy
Saishuu Heiki Kanojo yes its tragedy but it hits all other requirements
Densen Complex short stories
Watashitachi no Tamura-kun
Girl Friend
Suugaku Girl
Swweeet rape iirc is in the backstory could be wrong as i read it long ago
Sukimasuki
Ai-Ren this is tragedy, love between a dying man and an artificial girl
ES
Kanojo o Mamoru 51 no Houhou
Negative Happy Chain Saw Edge
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso you could give it a try,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
no happy ending though

Fruits Basket girl and the romance of the animals of the zodiac
Akkan Baby teen pregnancy
Boku no Chikyuu o Mamotte

for more happy endings you could try something by adachi (usual sports comedy romance tropes, not really complex characters or taboo relationships though)
Cross Game or Rough for example

Here are a few more:

Immortal Rain (Fantasy, Romance, similar to Double Arts, Complete)
Ran to Haiiro no Sekai (Fantasy, kinda Romance, Coming of Age, Complete)
Ashita no Ousama (Romance, Script Writing/Theatre, Complete)
Emma (Romance, Victorian Era, Master/Servant Forbidden Love, Complete)
Otoyomegatari (Historical, Romance, Older Female/Younger Male, same author as Emma, Ongoing)
Mahou Tsukai no Yome (Fantasy, Romance, European Ambiance/Mythology, fairly new, Ongiong)
Oooku (Historical, Romance, Matriarchal Society, Ongoing)
Spice and Wolf (Fantasy, Romance, interesting economics, Ongoing)

Err...there are a lot more, but I'm not exactly sure what else to say here since these are just about all of my favorites that I think most people tend to like.

Wow, there are a lot I'm forgetting to add to my read list apparently, thanks for suggesting though! Hadn't even heard of Emma. Immortal Rain and Mahou Tsukai no Yome are both great! I'll add then to my Great Reads list.
Again thanks, and please keep suggesting!
