Hi guys, I would love to develop a simple Android app for this site that helps you track your lists and do basic stuff. I have have developed an app before and so have experience so not a noob.

I would aim to finish it within 3-4 weeks if I get started today. However before that I just wanted to know if this is acceptable? Are there any do's and don'ts?

Thank you all biggrin

Well, I don't know if there are do's and don'ts but from me you have a PLEASE DO.

I've seen many people here wanting to do that but they either don't do it or stop posting updates, etc. I hope you won't be one of those.

Being so, you have all my (moral) support! bigrazz

I'm all for the app - the website is just way too mobile unfriendly sad

The app wouldn't even need to have that many options - all I really need in the release feed + access to my lists.

Being the lazy person that I am, I'm not likely to accept anything long-term though.

Ok things are rolling! I will post screenshots when I reach my first target - displaying the news feed and possibly poll!

Please look forward to it >.>

How are you accessing this site's data? Parsing HTML, you got database access, or is there some API that MU has?

I don't know if there is an API, even if there was I doubt it is fully featured hence I'll stick to parsing wink

I agree with jonytep and Gradonil_Ral! You have my support as well!

I mostly use this website for reading the latest posts, accessing my lists, and using advanced search.

I use my phone as well, so thank you very much biggrin

An app sounds interesting. Be prepared for 100 users with 100 different perspectives on what they want it to do. Been there, done that, ran away.

I just use Manga Updates for research to find out the status of Manga or find new Manga to read. I have tried the lists, but they just don't handle what I would like them to do. I've been using a large Google Docs Spreadsheet to keep track. It is very manual, but I will "someday" write some scripts to automate some work. And it works on desktop or phone.

My spreadsheet allows more information like adding links for each work. I can get similar functionality to MU lists, but this give more. Much more. Here is a sample of the column headings I use...(* indicates data not available on MU lists view).
Title [Obvious]
Read [My status for reading. LR is for Last Read, NR is for Next Read]
RdCh [Last or Next chapter to read]
Status (*) [ongoing, complete, ongoing translation but manga complete]
StCh [Last published translation chapter]
Date [Data of last translation chapter]
Description (*) [1 or 2 sentence description, including estimated last chapter]
Reading LINK (*) [A link to the site I am reading the project from]
Check author? (*) [yes/no to indicate I have looked into the authors other works]
Anime? (*) [Status of any Anime that may exist, even Live. And if I have watched them.]
MU LINK [A link back to this site for checking on the status of a project]

Happy reading.

Thanks guys and nice salty! I use mangaupdates to mostly find new manga but I hope the app will grow to accommodate people's on-the-go needs. Anyway, here's what I have worked on so far today. Just shows the news and to let you vote on the polls. Been a long day! dead

I was going to make a post about an android app so I can update my reading lists, especially since I regularly read manga on my phone, but I'm glad you're working on this.

Nice, this looks awesome, I 100% approve of this. Would you be able to show updates too? As well as have the user sort the list so that the latest updated series appears at the top? That's a main draw for me to use MU over MAL, because visiting my list will tell me what I have to read very easily, rather than check every single site I use.

Keep up the good work.
