I'm looking for a manga in which a woman seems to grant desires, or simply punish them for being greedy.

i believe it was japanese when I read it.

I thought it was xxxholic but couldn't find a few chapters I was looking for. Maybe it is and I'm being stupid

*spoilers from here*

She had a servant, older man who was a ventriloquist. He had half a dolls face representing the doll of his. Later on a young girl pulls off his doll face and he's freed of her service.

in one scene a group of kids is bullying another who has a turtle, and so the goddess woman shrank them in a park, turning them into paper dolls and set a cage down releasing a rat. I think if they made it to dawn they'd be fine. It ate one of the kids before they locked themselves in the cage for safety when the kid they bullied pokes them to death with sticks.

One scene had a woman parading about having a mermaid. The goddess woman tells of an island where mermaid can be found. The woman then goes to the island and tries to get the mermaids, but then gets eaten alive by them.

One has a woman who I think hates herself. The goddess woman gives her a paper doll? and the woman pours hot liquid onto it. Then hot liquid falls from the sky and burns her face.


The premise reminds me a lot of XXXholic and it might just be I didn't find the chapters I was looking for when searching, so sorry if I'm wrong.

Well, it's definitely not xxxHoLic, so that's your doubts laid to rest.

Was it actually a manga? Imo it sounds like it might be a manhua, instead... But I'll look around and see if I can find it: your description's really piqued my curiosity.

It remind me of Pet shop of horrors. If you don't find the title you are looking for try it. It is pretty similar.

Maybe The Tarot Cafe? I never finished it, but it sounds vaguely similar.

It's not Pet Shop of Horrors and I'm pretty sure it isn't The Tarot Cafe either, but if you're interested in that kind of story in general, then they do have very similar themes. Ditto for Yumekui Kenbun.

I looked all over, since I'd like to read it, too, but could find nothing more than vaguely likely candidates. Do you remember the demographic? Some/any of the genres? Whether licensed or not? Whether completely scanlated or not? Those points might help narrow it down some.

none of those seem to be the right thing sadly. They all sound similar but not the actual thing I'm looking for.

Manhua? never heard that term before.but i don't think so as I remember there being like 30 chapters.

reading xxxholic i recognized some of the chapters but it wasn't right. I'm wondering if there's a difference in the xxxholic japanese raw, and english version (like censorship) but idk, I could be silly.

Manhua = Chinese manga. Manhwa = Korean manga. The orientation (ie: reading direction), art style, and story-telling style are different between the three.

I don't think xxxHolic was censored. Even if it were censored in the official release, I read the online version by scanlators, and I still didn't see the scenes you were describing.

Did you read this in English, btw? If you read it in its native language, it might be a series that hasn't been scanlated at all or at least not up to those chapters.

I think it was a japanese text, but I did not read it in english.

sorry if I'm bugging at this point, just hoping to find it again.

Maybe Outer Zone? I think that has a similar "be careful what you wish for" premise.

Ah, see, that's probably why. I doubt it's been scanlated. Sorry I can't help you any further; I really hope you (and, by consequence, I) will be able to find it someday. If you ever do remember the title, could you also post it here so that I might take a look at it (scanlated in English or not)?
