One I read recently is Antimagia. Good art and is just two volumes long. Has some cool animals/creatures.
Would strongly recommend Monster Collection - Majuutsukai no Shoujo by Itoh Sei. Six volumes long and fully translated.

Blue Exorcist - ongoing and officially being translated as part of Shonen Jump.
The Familiar of Zero - I personally haven't read/seen this one but I remember the title is accounted for, at least. Unfortunately the author died so...it may not have continued after a particular point.
Matantei Loki (+ its sequel which has the word Ragnarok on the end of the title)
Tactics - Matantei Loki and Tactics are both kinda iffy in regards to translations (both official and scanlation).
Kamisama Kiss/Kamisama Hajimemashite - being done as part of Shoujo Beat. Its anime has already run for two seasons.
The Familiar of Zero - I personally haven't read/seen this one but I remember the title is accounted for, at least. Unfortunately the author died so...it may not have continued after a particular point.

Fortunately I'm obsessed with the same stuff ^^ Here are my suggestions—you may be doubtful or think they're shabby at the first chapter or two but don't drop either.
Kamisama Kiss (Anime) —I haven't seen the manga, but the anime is fantastic! The girl may seem shabby at the start but she's an angel if you ask me, she's pretty and just amazing.
Tiara —again, it might seem melodramatic at the first chapter, but just read on...I can't pinpoint when I got hooked but it'd be a sin to drop this.
Fruits Basket —they're all animals of the Chinese zodiac and have the power to transform into one of the 12, that's sorta close to 'pets'.
They all have relatively good art and romance—you didn't say you favoured it; if you don't then, sorry, you'll have to do will Tiara, it's amazing anyhow I assure you. Anyway, good luck, hope you find something great to read next
