so.......i need something like that.
manga with 'real feeling of war'. preferably in Europe setting.
something like Valkyria Chronicles or Gunka no Baltzar
Nejimaki Seirei Senki - Tenkyou no Alderamin pretty much matched
but something like Heavy Object not entirely matched though it's welcomed
and oh, Arslan Senki is also welcomed.
if it's something from older manga, it's okay. i might overlook something there.

note: i can search in tag 'Military' but honestly, i can't check one by one. and it's also mixed with yaoi/hentai..... i want to avoid that at any cost

You can filter it out when you do an advance search, put the 'military' in the box and filter it out.

Sample my sizable selection in the manga centered on soldier at war thread.
I also used to be a soldier (i saw no combat) and i can tell you that most picks have nothing to do with the reality of combat/military life as it isn´t as flashy or exciting as one might think and you can´t beat Band of Brothers. (The first and 3rd Valkyria Chronicles games are really good though and tower over all the lame adaptations.)

Pumpkin Scissors Definitely a bit of politics and science fic, but give a good few on war and post war mentalities and feelings.

wow, thanks for recommendation and that thread. i'll check one by one..

actually, i've done my search by using advanced filter and 'military' tag. but mostly the result i have read or just not interesting enough... i'm trying to use other means tbh.
and the true reason is... i'm trying to find manga/games similar to Valkyria Chronicles. is it too much huh... the games are totally awesome tho.

Have you tried the gundam series, or code geass? I mean I am not sure how it is similar to valkyrie, since i dont really know what it's about, but gundam and code geass are very military oriented stories. Code Geass is an anime, but I figure if you are here you probably do watch anime.

Although not war, I think Freesia holds the same atmosphere as a battlefield could.

THANK YOU for this!

I got hopeful about "Gate", only to find that it had magic in it. As an old man looking for realistic war manga, magic plays NO part in my criteria. From what I've heard over the years, real war is the dead opposite of magic.

I see a couple of series already that I am going to check out for sure.

...

Oops, how could I have forgotten THIS, which I recently read 4 volumes of? This is real! war, a history of the Japanese experience from 1931 to post 1945, when they were continually at war, first trying to take over China, then in China and the Pacific against the USA. If you like history, you'll love it. In addition, the way the mangaka, who lived through the whole mess, depicts himself is often hilarious:

It' can all be found on Amazon, under the name "Showa".

Imperial guards features "classic" riflemen (or musketeers), supported by sabertooth tigers, although it's japanese themed and includes minor magic for telepathic/signals only, not for offense.

I went with a broad selection of themes to get you started.

Crécy is a very black comedy set during the Hundred Years' War that helped to start the publisher´s turn from trash porn producers to a genuine publishing house with zero restrictions on content.

DMZ is the definition of a post 9/11 comic and does some gutsy things with the protagonist towards the end. The author also did Northlanders which is Vinland Saga´s younger brother and tells self contained tales of various lengths about... can you guess?

Eagles of Rome should please any fan of Rome/Spartacus and has amazing coloring. European comics tend to have highest production values btw. yet the writing itself is usually the weakest when compared to A-level series from America or Japan.

Maus is the Holocaust comic and one of the most recognized books of the 20th century so it is even covered in schools.

Punisher Born is part the decade long Punisher run by of Garth Ennis and tells the tale of Frank´s final tour in Vietnam. Some of main comic´s arcs are war stories too and the Nick Fury side-series is also a delight. Ennis always writes about war veterans and is the best overall war comic writer alive. His War Stories just came back and Marvel also gave us The_'Nam which ran too long but certainly left footprints behind.

Unknown Soldier was rebooted in 2008 with a setting in Uganda by DC/Vertigo and it was way too bleak to make money (child soldiers gang rape a nun for example and the Punisher-esque protagonist goes though such children like paper) so the run was accelerated yet it was allowed to go with it´s intended ending (a bit like HBO´s Rome).
No better war comic ever existed.

I lastly played This War of Mine last week and it needs to win awards (but i like CoD and Battlefield too).
