The translation quality seems to have taken a huge dive. I can't even read this crap properly without getting a headache. I need to basically skim through the paragraphs else the word vomit will do my head in.

What happened to the excellent translations from before? I hope they get better because god if this keeps going I'm definitely going to drop this series.

Not sure what you have been reading, but there were no major problems with the 2/3 of the volume that I have read. I do agree that it is a bit of a heavy read, but I don't think that has to do with the translation, but more with the wording. That's the feeling I get.

And honestly it's bad manners to complain about translations someone does in there free time without any monetary compensation. Be happy that it's even getting translated and in a decent quality at that.

While I disagree with the first guy about this being a poor translation (I found vol 6 to be well translated, just like every other volume done by this particular translator), I also have to disagree with your 2nd paragraph.

If you're going to translate, you should do a thorough job of it or don't do it at all. Re:Monster for example, it started off ok, but then by day 150 onwards, the translation was so BAD that I wish they didn't bother translating at all. That's because someone else who might have picked up translating will see that there are already chapters released and decide not to do it.

Speaking of poor translations...what do editors even do for the translators? They definitely aren't editing. I stopped reading 3 light novels (re:monster, law of the devil, and something else) because the english was so bad. I know for one of them, the translator had 4 "editors" on the staff...(sorry this last part was off topic, just me ranting)

Personally i'm not so critical on translation quality. As long as its understandable and comes as close as possible to the original meaning then im satisfied.

Besides i do not pay for translation as its free by fans for fans. So fair deal. I do buy some of the raw novels and sometimes donate to translation groups but as i said, i did not pay for translation. Complaining about free stuff that people took effort to make and let you read is unbecoming. If its so bad that you get disgusted and deprived then learn Japanese yourself.

Now if its publisher's translations then yes, i believe i'm entitled to good translations for what i paid. They are after all paid to do it. Goes the same for paid translation commissions by fans(which tend to be more expensive then publisher >.> though they are quick).

If a translation is crap, they should be pointed out for it. So what if they do it for free? If noone can criticize fan translators for their failing how can they improve?

And I also believe fan translations if they're of terrible quality, should not be done at all. Seriously, it's an insult to an author's work and gives readers the impression that the original work is as crap as the translation.

Eg Ren's translation of Coiling Dragon is consistently excellent all the way through, while the later chapters of Moonlight Sculptor just.... does my head in.

If the excellent beginning translations of Moonlight didn't exist and crappy later translators on the novel had worked on it instead, I would of surely written off the whole novel without realising how good it actually is.
