I am looking for something on the genre of supernatural with the classical flavour like Hyakki Yakoushou or even paranormal like Kurosagi corpse delivery service. I dont want odd powers with costume change, gears and some magical girl chant, ewww. Mind you I have read almost all that is there to read, some good ones I have read or not so good ones too but I am aware of are:-

mushishi
mana
Dokebi Bride
xxxholic

and two series of Korean folk tales based manwhas.

I dont count her majesty's dog nor vampire knight nor 3x3 eyes under this because they dont have that folk tale types outlook.
So any other good mangas like Hyakki Yakoushou out there??
So I would love

Ghost Hunt is probably the best one that isn't already on that list.

You could go ahead and try the Rental Magica anime as well, since the manga isn't scanned.

Mekakushi no Kuni <-- a shoujo, but a really good one.
Homunculus could qualify.
Luck Stealer
Chameleon Jail
Koudelka

I'm not sure those would be anything like the thing you're looking for, but:
Hellsing <-- vampires! I'm amazed I don't see it on your lists.
Jack Frost <-- similar to Hellsing
Psyren
Darker Than Black althoug I'd rather recommend you the anime version. The manga uh, sucks.

Thanks all for recommending, I fail to see how Haruhi suzumiya would correspond to folk tales, but thanks for recommending, funkmu1. smile

Thanks Layhe, I am aware of almost all the ones u posted which somehow dont quite fit the bill but Homunculus looks interesting. I tend to steer away from shoujo when I search for my kind of supernatural, shoujo gives a lot of bs usually, and gadget, gears, books, charms, chants, are so done , I yearn for a normal salt throwing that even we follow nowadays.

Crenshinibon, thanks for your recommendations, I should have mentioned I saw whole of Ghost hunt anime so the manga is just like a follow up to me. I didnt like Rental magica anime so I doubt I would like the manga besides, its not actually folk tale-y, but still you bothered to recommend, thats enough for me! biggrin bigrazz

tsuto, you are the only one who actually got what I was looking for, I am SO BAD at explaining myself!! I checked out both, the first one looked nice but somehow it was a poor copy of the Hyakki yakoushou, I like the latter better. But Skyhigh was really good, many would say its like Jigoku shoujo, but the maker of Jiraishin is definitely more creative. Thanks for this one... biggrin

I had a quick look at your list and couldn't find these, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Mermaid Saga: depressing, confusing and the art takes getting used to, but strangely I liked it. it might be what your looking for?
The land with silver rain < it's shoujo, but I found it has a kind of similar feel (for me anyway) as dokebi bride. It's a manwha. This might be a little off track though, so I'm not sure how helpful the suggestion is.

it's not so much folk tale, but very supernatural and paranormal, how could it not be?
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Haruhi is some sort of god being after all, with a ESPer, a person from the future and a bioandroid that hang out with her how can this not be paranormal?

Gaaah! You've already got all of my favourites in this genre on your reading list... Well, although finding mangas with that "special feeling" (such as xxxHolic, Selected Pandemonium or Mushi-shi) is really difficult, I cross referenced a couple of lists on different sites and came up with these:

yougen no chi: This one appears on a couple of "underrated manga" lists and has one foot --or at least a toe-- in the world of goth, although there is a surprising lack of lace, leather and perverse weapons.
shiki: New manga from the author of ghost hunt and ghost hound that has me captivated. BUSY art, looong chapters.
Reikan Shouhou Kabushikigaisha: Well, it's worth a try. From the mangaka of Petshop of Horrors. Gets a bit repetative.
Sedouka: Really beautiful. And short. In fact, I can only get ahold of the first chapter.
Onikirimaru: This one was a surprise in that I actually enjoyed it. I was expecting some shonen adventure with a really lengthy testosterone-laden plot and flashy moves and ended up with... well... Onikimaru.
Moyashimon: Sorry. I had to. I mean, I guess there's nothing exceptionally mysterious about bacteria, except for the fact the main character sees and speaks to them. Oh, and just like in that son by U2, these little buggers move in mysterious ways. This is what Mushi-shi would have been if it had taken place in Tokyo in the 21st century. Yeah.
K no Souretsu: Also appears on a couple of "underrated manga" lists. Really interesting.
Genjuu no Seiza: I have no idea why I feel so guilty reading this one. Probably some unresolved childhood issues or something. Once again, this is from the mangaka of Petshop of Horrors and one of her better ones.
Nijigahara Holograph: Try it. I dare you.
Mieru Hito: In supernatural mangas where flashy moves aren't as important as, say, that enormous fish monster that has been following you for most of your life you don't often get bad-assed main characters with white hair, sunglasses, a long coat, bandages and a shit-eating grin.
Uzumaki: As any naruto fan would know, uzumaki means spiral. This manga, which clearly emphazises the fact that spirals = bad tidings, really made me sort of obsessed with avoiding spirals. I knew it had gone too far when I didn't dare to take a bath for fear of pulling the plug.
Gohou Drug: CLAMP. In other words, I'm just waiting for someone to lose an eye. And for the main characters to stop flirting with homosexuality and take it out on a proper date. Not as good as xxxHolic (And much shorter. At the moment it stops at 3 volumes, although CLAMP recently promised that it would be continued.) but infinitly better than, say, Tsubasa. The supernatural elements are of a gentler nature.
Safe again today: Once again I had to. I mean, I really enjoyed this one. Alien are perhaps not very supernatural (Or perhaps they are? It all depends on wether or not they exist, although that means that the aliens in this story are supernatural, since I'm pretty sure aliens such as these won't ever come to be.), bit damn it's worth a read. reading this manga actually invokes the same type of feelings as when I read, say, Mushi-shi, xxxHolic or Mana.

Well, I hope you find something to your liking. I've been searching desperately myself and if I ever manage to find something as good as Selected Pandemonium again I'll be sure to drop you a PM...

The land with silver rain seems interesting, m checking that out, good thing the whole series been scanlated, Yatta!! I tend to avoid old mangas as teh art
really psyches me out, I am quite babied by contemporary skill in art, heh heh, but I will watch out for that. Thanks a lot, oblique!!

I hope one of them is good. >.<

I was aware of Mononoke, biggrin , since I saw the whole anime series and its prequel, I am officially a big fan of the medicine seller, wish he had a shorter name though...Amatsuki seems good, will give a try. Katana has a horror genre which is very promising. biggrin But Stigmata will have to wait, since Christian mythology or paranormality (whatever that is) is something I have gone through in so many movies, I have seen movies like Constantine and sin eater and the likes so its pretty much everyday stuff now hee haw! But Dr Love, thanks a bunch!!

funkmu1, I actually saw some bits of it and I am sorry to say I dislike the concept itself and I am one of those weird ones who just sometimes dont like what every likes, and its more like sci-fi to me...but thanks again.. biggrin

nottheaverageidiot, I didnt quote u coz I dunno if the admin will kick me out anyway for posting so long biggrin but hey, buddy, your post ws very comprehensive and saved me loads of trouble!! smile that is to check them out. so I ( _ _ ) applaud your hard work!! Thanks a lot for this!! biggrin

Lets see, yougen no chi: I saw but actually I forgot to mention, that I really dont want any more vampires. The best vampire anime was hellsing and after that, even the manga is a bit dreary to me. I have read this one nonetheless, its sort of okay.

Shiki is something people seem to be recommending a lot, so this is a must check out...so is "Reikan Shouhou Kabushikigaisha" and "Genjuu no Seiza"- I liked petshop series except for the gay part and hopefully they will be just as good.

Sedouka seems intriguing so I will put that down in my second list, but GAH! I do hate the wait for the releases..

....Onikirimaru seemed good when I read the description but the genre 'tragedy'?? That threw me off, please do tell me that this isnt a tragedy!! cry

..I will put Moyashimon in my second list, it has an anime to it, doesnt it? maybe I might watch the anime and ditch the manga, lol but lets see..

Though K no Souretsu: is fantasy rather than supernatural, I do like a mystery and its completely scanned with only 2 volumes, will check out.

Nijigahara Holograph:, u want me to go psychological?? I was just looking for pure and simple everyday supernatural, maybe on a rainy day when I feel dark and depressed bigrazz

I read Mieru Hito once maybe a year or so ago, its like Urahara Kisuke living the life of a landlord, laugh Might check it out but if I dont remember it, it might be because it didnt suit my taste...sorry, for being picky..

Before I realized petshop of horrors had some shonen ai, I was already in the middle of it so I couldnt quit but I really dislike shonen ai and yaoi so I will give Gohou Drug a pass bigrazz

I have read Uzumaki: and Safe again today but the reason I dint post it coz, I wanted biggrin an oni- mononoke or youkai style manga in modern day life which is why I left out aliens, vampires, christian mythology, etc but I know I did mention Kurosagi corpse delivery service so my bad bigrazz ..however, GAWRSH!! I now have a nice list of good mangas to check out, this will fill the next few months.........hopefully biggrin ..THANKS A TON!!

I was going to say xxxholic but you've already see that.
I don't believe it has a manga but the anime Ghost Hound is very good, I think it could be what you're looking for.

You are welcome.

Another interesting one I am currently reading is a collection of short stories by the author of famous works like Narutaru and Bokurano.

Fuguruma Memories is very good as well.
