long time, didn't expect all this when i unretire myself from translation. a few weeks ago...
but i think it is still relatively safe if that's all i want to do and improve my skill. no scanlation for me.

To be honest people are over reacting to this, groups come and go, some just last longer than others. Personally do not see any danger to other scanlators as long as they are not releasing chapters earlier than Japan. Thank you Red Hawk Scans for the work and effort to bring us enjoyable manga and for those of us that followed Kimi no Iru Machi our weekly dose of rage lol.

Why are the scanlation groups closing one by one.
And it's closing on the same method as with imperial scans, smells like a DMCA take down.

If its a DMCA take down why would they be hiding it. Groups that closed before openly told that was the issue of them closing.

Probably because they aren't allowed to say that they are closed down because of a DMCA, stated in the DMCA

Which group is next? Sense-scans? Or S2scans? Not Mangastream.

So it really could be forced to shut down....or at least it may have been a factor in their consideration...

People, why are you talking about DMCA? Don't you read the news? If your early raw provider and probably group member gets arrested, and your whole business model is based on early raw access, what are you going to do?

This is kinda funny if it's the case.

" here DMCA for you to close shop but you better don't mention us giving you DMCA".

Yes, regardless of what the announcement in their web said that must be one of the trigger to actually close down mmm...
But if that was really the main problem then we'll see their current staff actually making a comeback (or already) in other groups mmm...

I don't think so. I don't think they can legally prevent them from telling the truth. Previous groups that closed before specifically stated that they were given a DMCA notice to shutdown. Only thing I can see is they are closing shop before they get any notice or they are already legally implicated and to get out scathe free they can not tell the real reason why they are closing but even if this is the case once the settlement is done it will be revealed but most likely it will still be revealed through other channels way before then. Or is can be just like they said they are now too busy to scanlate.

It will probably at least kill most of those working on mainstream weekly (and maybe monthly) series

Doubt it. Usually groups close by gradually becoming inactive so that, eventually, one of the remaining members makes the farewell post - while keeping the site intact at least for a while afterwards.

Here we have a group that kept making releases (Nisekoi was released four days ago!), and suddenly disappears, taking down its website too.

Okay just saw the latest news post. Its a shutdown before they get a DMCA notice. Can't really give a notice to a site that is no longer is there.
