Ok so the title might be quite vague and can be a bit misleading, basically, the heroine's life is a real mess to the point that she's nearly (or already) broken. She could be abused by her family, bullied in the school, a loner because of some circumstances, haunted by a dark past, and etc. And that's where the male MC comes in to save her and becomes her comfort.
Examples of what I'm looking for are something like:

Bitter Virgin
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The male MC getting the heroine out of her extremely dark past and becomes her support

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Aside from saving Kayo from being a murder target, he's also saving her from her loneliness and abusive family, becoming a safe place for her and their development were beyond awesome, which of course make it all the more bitter when she didn't end up with him, but what I'm looking for does fits perfectly with the relationship of Satoru and Kayo, except I want them to end up together like Daisuke and Hinako in Bitter Virgin

Also, I read a bit of chapters from Koe no Katachi and it does have similar situation (or should I say, similar atmosphere?) to what I'm looking for but I'm not liking what I read about the future chapters and many people say the ending isn't that good.

Another example aside from a manga is a visual novel called Crescendo, in one of the route where the main heroine is Otowa Yuka.

No yaoi/yuri/shounen ai/shoujo ai pls

There would be a perfect match for you but... I cant remember the name! xD

It is a manga about a guy who is studying to become a psychologist and he meets a girl that many in his profession had tried to treat some ailment of her to no avail, I read it many years ago but I reached the last chapter scanlated and then forgot about it.

It has a strong reference to Sickness unto Death (it is even mentioned in the manga, it s a book of Kierkegaard). If by any chance another reader knows of it, you could give it a try (and make me remember lol).

What koe no katachi had a bad ending? Come on. It's such a worthwhile story. There's a lot of character growth and some not so much so it's frustrating but in the end, it comes together as well as life could make it without turning it into something really cheesy. It's not cheesy romance/love either. You should keep going. There's nothing like it. I recommend reading it somewhere where you can have a discussion with each chapter. There's a site that does that which makes for a pretty good processing of the story instead of engorging chapter after chapter like a glutton. Let me know if you want to check that site out for reading this manga. It definitely helps to be able to get your frustrations and thoughts out at the end of each chapter and commenting on other people's thoughts instead of reading straight through for this particular manga.

Mars Instead of strictly damsel in distress, both gender MC have their fair share of needing comfort and coming out stronger
Eden no Hana I vaguely remember it is similar to bitter virgin but more shoujo-esque

There's more of these sort of stories but I'm mainly commenting to encourage you to finish Koe no Katachi. Let me know if you want to know about where I read it.

If you don't mind webtoons, this one was vey good Diamond Dust (KANG Hyung-Gyu).

I don't actually know, I heard it from my friends (and one friend in particular has a similar taste with mine so that kinda convinced me I guess) and some posts around the net, what really got me was the fact that it's an open ending. I dunno the details as I told my friend to refrain from any descriptive spoilers in case I decided to dive in but seeing the rants from many people about it just dampened my interest further.

On another note, I've heard about Mars for awhile now, I wanna start reading but afraid that it'd take too much time so I think I'll save it for the holidays.
And Eden no Hana..... I KNOW I've read this before and have some few recollections about it (I remember the heroine getting physically abused at home IIRC) but I didn't remember why I didn't continue it. I guess I'll check it out to find out.
That being said, thx for the recommendations!

Wow, how can I missed this one? I thought I've scoured all webtoons but I never saw this one, ever. It's like it just popped out of nowhere, and I'm sure as hell glad it did!
Thx~

Seeing that you mentioned visual novels and also have ava/sig from Ourai no Gahkthun, I thought that some VN recommendations wouldn't be too out of place.

Dorei to no Seikatsu (v18636 at vndb) is pretty much exactly what you are looking for. And just in case, it is not a nukige.

Thanks for recommending this manhwa, it is indeed very good.
But I think it's not quite what OP is looking for. Diamond Dust is quite sad, even depressing, and I got the impression that Lyrad wanted something more heartwarming.
