The movie choice should have remained my simple “adaptations”. The MCU (the biggest film franchise of all time) is on TV after all and DC´s toons are still the golden standard. Some of the recent games have also made a significant mark, even if there is still a lot of room to grow. I selected lots, and more than manga, even if my current manga reading list is vastly larger, due to the giant and worthwhile backlog for US material. I don´t know if the math shakes out though, as i have also read a lifetimes or two of manga.

Again, this lovely trash topic... I again have to chose no, it's just fiction, as we have bigger problems to police. I love that child pr0n is a non-issue with comics outside of Japan (and now Korea i guess) but these discussions just change to refrigerator debates instead.

I forgot I even submitted this question, lol.

But the reason I asked is because a few months ago, a United Nations envoy said that Japan should ban loli and shota manga. Back when I first started reading manga, I was completely disgusted by the idea of loli and shota, and couldn't understand how it could be acceptable. Somehow, over time my position changed and I came to accept it as a part of manga. To me, it's just fiction and I don't think reading loli or shota has anything to do with real life pedophilia. But when I came across the article about the UN, I started wondering how my views changed. Maybe I just eventually became desensitized to it, which isn't necessarily a good thing. So yeah, I don't really know where I fall on the issue anymore.

This poll feels like a repeat to me, but not sure.

I don't really care. I personally despise them both - the only genres I unconditionally hate - but their existence isn't going to change just because I hate them. I don't really think about it at all; there're a hundred more important things, and whether they ban it or not my reading experience won't change one iota and neither will my life.

Don't care is my pick, but since that isn't an option, no point in voting on this one.

As for this... I don't agree one bit. I think the UN should have a thousand priorities before they go trying to change the manga trade... Or any type of fiction, in any country. To me it's a question of priorities: perhaps in an ideal world you'd have time to go around making sure that any and all negative influences are removed from fiction. But this isn't an ideal world.

If it's just fiction, i don't mind anything. Because, it shows author's creativity. But drawings or story or both got to be nice.

You can't stop pedophilia with banning loli and shota mangas. Person with pedophilia is the problem.

For example, i love fiction lolis. But never wanted/wanna hug or abuse a child irl. I even get mad when i hear one.

I honestly do not know what to chose, there should be a choice "I don't care". For me is like asking should hentai/gore/etc manga excist? it is a genre and ttherefore it is aiming for a type of people, for me is a no, but what gives me the right to say that it should not excist.

I find them disgusting, so in MY ideal world they wouldn't exist. But from this to actively wanting to get them banned it goes a long way. I guess, for how this question is asked, it's still a yes from me.

It's a bit conflicting. Being a person who raises children, I tend to find such manga repulsive. To draw depictions of a child being raped or somehow being interested in sex (despite the fact they haven't gone through puberty and therefor do not have the hormones to make them horny) is seriously fucked up. Children are innocent and ignorant. To take advantage of that is beyond disgusting. I know it's fiction, but that doesn't really make it ok. I hope those mangaka who draw these images NEVER have children.

On the other hand, I really don't like censorship. I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I were to say "fuck censorship, anything goes," and turn around and say this genre shouldn't be allowed. Just because something is offensive doesn't mean you should ban it. If somebody will be physically or psychologically harmed because of it, then it shouldn't be allowed though. That's crossing the line and nobody can convince me that a 7, 10, or 13-year-old wont be psychologically twisted and damaged from sexual activity with an adult.

Some people may say "oh, it's a non-violent way for pedophiles to get off instead of abusing kids IRL," and to that I must call those people idiots. I don't believe it's going to stop a pedophile from eventually molesting a child, nor do I believe it makes their "condition" worse. People can't help what they are attracted to, just like being into homosexuality, heterosexuality, inanimate objects, bestiality, etc. Pedophiles can't help that they are attracted to kids and most can control their desires. They just live normal lives, get married, fuck people their age, and have kids that they hopefully don't molest. Then there are the ones who put effort into finding a child to molest that wont tell on them. MANY people have the desire to fuck a kid at some point (even I'm guilty of eye-fucking some teenagers periodically). It's the ones who act out on those desires that makes them bad. Having manga that depicts kids being fucked wont deter them from their goals. That's just fucking stupid, extremely flawed logic.

The age of consent should be 15 or 16 ( and if an adult molests somebody younger than that, they should be executed on TV. When I see somebody going to prison for fucking a 15 or 16-year-old, I find it ludicrous that they have to be called a sexual predator the rest of their lives. As if a 15 or 16-year-old can't make their own educated decisions. The government wants kids to wait til they're out of school before fucking people older than them, as if a few math, English, art/mechanical and science classes will help them make more educated decisions about having sex. They already know the pros and cons of having sex by 15 or 16. I went to school with a guy who dated a girl 2 years younger since they were in middle school. ONE WEEK after he turned 18, he was arrested for sexual assault of a minor or some shit. Don't know who reported him (it definitely wasn't his girlfriend or her parents) or how they proved it (they both refused to answer questions during interrogation), but now he's considered a sexual predator for life. He stayed in prison for 2.5 years and got back together with her when he got out (she was 19 by that time).

To those people who choose "I don't care" because they can't decide should try putting some thought into it instead of impulsively making a post. If you're conflicted over censorship (which is likely the case in the end), then choose no. Stand by your beliefs, don't be a hypocrite! If you censor one thing, it opens the door for other things to be censored and it just snowballs until you live in a police state or worse.

Well, I've gone off on tangents long enough. Despite my hatred for pedophilia, I grudgingly choose no since nobody is being hurt. Just because I really fucking hate lolicon and shotacon, it doesn't mean it should be banned.

tl;dr I grudgingly choose no simply because I hate censorship of all kinds and don't want to be a hypocrite. I do believe there is a limit if somebody will be hurt physically or psychologically though, but manga wont cause that (unless you're some weak-minded cunt who fakes PTSD).
