Hi all! It's me again.

This time I'd love any manga/manhua/manwha with a situation where everyone knew the main character was bad, and now after something happened (anything!), the main character suddenly is nice (or viceversa, nice → bad).

The “something happened (anything!)”, also known as what is not really important, could be: a reincarnation story where A reincarnates in B's body, OR a story where the main character gets cursed with doing good deeds instead of bad, OR after an accident MC gets memory loss/amnesia where they don't remember who they were or how they were so they have a whole new personality, OR main character's cousin/sibling or boss/queen/king/a famous idol/anyone is a big meanie and is sick or died or is missing or whatever, and main character has to dress up as them and impersonate them but MC is so nice that the people around them is surprised and shocked to see their boss/queen/friend/idol being suddenly so nice to them after years of being mean.

What I want to see (and is important) is the difference between that “old self” and their new personality, and how people around MC react to that change. I would really like if their old self/former personality/(or the person they're pretending to be) was a bad person/or was not that nice to people, so now that the MC is good/nice/kind, people are surprised or feel strange or suspiscious with this change of heart.

The only two examples I have read about this (but not really, because they don't have all what I want), are:
Kobayashi ga Kawai Sugite Tsurai!! – Twins swap places in school for a week and obviously, their schoolmates notice their "change of personality".
Koushaku Reijou no Tashinami – MC dies and is reincarnated into a Mean Girl... kind of.

Oh! About genres I don't mind... I just don't really enjoy harems, though. Or ecchi. If it's a reincarnation story there has to be death for A to reincarnate into B's body, I accept that, I don't have problems with that. But I don't want a very definite death at the very end of the manga... Like, oops! MC dies, THE END.- Nope, that's not a happy or okay ending for me (that's why I avoid tragedies).

Thank you so much!!

Err, I have a webtoon recommendation about reincarnation theme, but it also has a bit of personality changes theme there too. But it's more like the other way around from what you requested and I don't want to spoil. I still highly recommend for you to read it though since it's soo good: The Moon That Rises in the Day

I think one you would like is Pandora Hearts. It has a villainous character reincarnated (sort of) into a nice character. To say any more would be a big spoiler, because it involves the main twist at the end. But I think it is exactly what you are looking for. It does have the tragedy genre tag, but it ultimately has a happy ending. (They're are a little too enthusiastic with that tag sometimes. Lots of things that I think have happy endings are tagged with it, like Fullmetal Alchemist & Koe no Katachi.)

I can also list a few other good reincarnation series, but I'm not sure if they are what you are looking for. These are mostly the kind where all the main characters die and are reincarnated. Those are the kinds that I like, I suppose. If you don't like any and all tragedy, you might want to stay away because they characters almost all died tragically in their past lives. But now they are living happily as modern day Japanese teenagers.

Bokura no Kiseki - The characters used to live in a medieval Europe style fantasy world but have been reincarnated as Japanese teens. There is a particular character who was rather villainous before but is now a nice and easygoing guy. Part of the plot is about the other characters who know about his past life hiding it from others so people will not try to get revenge on him. It is still ongoing so I can't say anything about the ending.

Please Save My Earth - It's almost a classic manga. They were aliens in a futuristic society but were reincarnated as Japanese teens. Some of them did evil things in their past lives, and there is a question of whether they are responsible for them in the present. It has a happy ending for the modern day characters.

Spirit Circle - I'm actually in the middle of this one now, so I can't tell you if the ending is happy. The main character has to look at 7 past lives where he met the female main. Sometimes he is the villain, sometimes she is. Sometimes they are friends. It's very interesting.

NG Life is another reincarnation story that doesn't have a lot of personality changes is but there are gender changes for some characters. It has been a while since I read it, but it does have a happy ending for the modern day characters. The plot is focused more on what happened in their past lives.

Yukarism - The main character used to be a courtesan in his past life, now he is a writer. His love interest was a male sorcerer who visited the courtesan house, now she is a normal high school student. The modern day characters have a happy ending.

Seconding Spirit Circle. It's seriously a fantastic reincarnation story. One of the best I've ever read, in fact. (Note: it is not a tragedy. Mizukami Satoshi is, as always, great at writing endings.)

And, of course, I've got to recommend Kagerou Nostalgia. It's the reincarnation story to which I compare all other reincarnation stories to!

Genjuu no Seiza is a pretty well-written reincarnation series, though it's not really about bad --> good (or vice versa) and more like good --> normal.

Also, it takes a while to reach the reincarnation bits of it (and it ends up kind of as a B-plot), but I definitely recommend Lessa and its sequel. Its premise might seem hokey at first, but its really a series that knows what it's doing and its mythos.

Shut Hell is worth a look, though it's both a reincarnation manga and... not. Definitely has a personality change midway through the series though. And lots of great action scenes, if you're into that.

Also some reincarnation stories that I don't actually like all that much but that fit into what you're looking for:
Angel Sanctuary
A Thousand Years Ninetails
Sekai no Owari no Encore

I also think Okoborehime to Entaku no Kishi is worth reading, though the only thing it really has is the "reincarnation" going for it. (Actually, it's more like the protagonist has a direct line to her ancestors so that she can have conversations with them whenever she's in trouble.) So not really about personality changes at all, but it's a nice read with a great protagonist.

And, personality changes without the reincarnation bits:

Heads: Basically a Jekyll and Hyde story in which the protagonist basically gains a split personality via head trauma. Never read this until the end, so not sure if it ends tragically or not. It was pretty decent, though not spectacular, from what I remember.

Kasane (MATSUURA Daruma): Kasane can take on the face of others via her magical lipstick. One of the major conflicts is the question of who Kasane really is, and if taking the face (and place) of others will erase either her identity or the identity of the other person.

Mayonaka no X Giten: All about body swaps! Ecchi, but the plot sort of makes up for it. (I'm not a fan of ecchi either, but this manga is interesting enough to let me power through that.)

Parasyte: Protagonist's personality begins changing as he assimilates more with the alien with which he shares his body. Gory, but good.

Tokage: Spirit possesses the body of the protagonist's late sister. One of the major points of conflict is Tokage being extremely different from the protag's sister yet still using her face.

There's also an actual Personality Change/s category, in case you didn't know.

Reincarnation:

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru yet. Its main premise is that the protagonist used to be a not-so-nice Ice Queen, but is now an almost annoyingly nice guy.

And, of course, Honoo no Mirage (Novel) is the perfect embodiment of reincarnation personality change. (I prefer the personality that died, sadly) And it is tragedy in the "they met a terrible end in their previous lives" way, but since it's not completely translated yet, I dunno if the actual ending will be happy or sad.

Mahoutsukai no Neko -- Too much information here would be a spoiler.

Monochrome Factor -- The original life's personality and the current one aren't that different, actually. It's just that the current guy isn't as extreme as the original one.

Sengoku Tsukiyo -- Evil woman --> normal guy.

Shunkan Lyle -- Maybe, but since the plot is still in the nascent stages, I can't say for sure.

Personality change without reincarnation:

Arisa for the "pretending to be someone different" category.

Sugiru Juunana no Haru -- A curse causing personality change.

Toukyou Kushu and its sequel -- Change of species causing personality change.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I will check them out and see if I like them. smile Some of them are already on my wish list, but others aren't, so I'll look more into them. Thank you!! biggrin

I've seen Pandora Hearts recommended on so many threads about topics I liked that it seems like the manga itself is yelling at me "Pick me up!! Read me!! I'm worth it!!". So yeah, I'll make sure to read it soon.

Also, I think I expressed myself wrong? Or I explained what I wanted wrongly, I think.

The reincarnation is not mandatory, it's just the mean to an end, I suppose. The things you recommend can or cannot have reincarnation and it's still okay, because (just) reincarnation mangas is not what I want. What I really want is a situation where everyone knew the main character was bad, and now after something happened (anything!), the main character suddenly is nice (or viceversa, nice → bad, or nice → normal is okay too).

The "something happened (anything!)", also known as what is not important, could be: a reincarnation story where A reincarnates in B's body, OR a story where the main character gets cursed with doing good deeds instead of bad, OR after an accident MC gets memory loss/amnesia where they don't remember who they were or how they were so they have a whole new personality, OR main character's cousin/sibling/queen/king/anyone who is a big meanie but looks like them is sick or died or whatever and main character has to dress up as the cousin/king/whoever and impersonate them but main character is so nice that the people is surprised and shocked to see their queen/cousin/friend being suddenly so nice to them after years of being mean.
You know? That is what I want, it doesn't matter if it's a reincarnation story or not.

About the tragedy, I meant that I don't want the MC or the love interest to die at the very end of the manga. Of course if it's a reincarnation story, there has to be death for A to go to B's body, I accept that, I don't have problems with that, so recommend on!~

Annnd, I didn't know about that tag (Personality Change), so I'll check it out, thanks!

Anyway, regardless of all that, all your recs have been good and amazing, so thank you so much for everyone who took their time to pass by this topic and actually reply to recommend me stuff. Thank you. smile smile I really, really appreciate it.

Oh, and I forgot Sougiya Riddle.

As a just-in-case: all my above recommendations still stand. I believe I understood your request properly: all of them have a main character undergo a personality change that messes up people's plans/shocks them/helps defeat a previously unbeatable bad guy, etc. It's just that that scenario is more common in reincarnation stories.

Yeah, I was writing my comment just while you commented, so before I posted it I didn't see there was a new comment. But yeah, having read your comment now I see there are other recs besides just reincarnation. I tried to explain all of it again, because I thought that everyone believed I only wanted reincarnation stuff and... No, that wasn't it. Or not just
that.

But anyway, thank you for your recommendations. As you said, they still stand. smile

Thank you too, @hi2moony !! I will check them out. biggrin
