Hello,

I'm looking for manga or anime where the protagonist travels to another world and becomes the villain, not the hero.

I don't have any great examples of this, but something like From Far Away would be okay
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
(Noriko is the Awakening, even if she ultimately ends up a heroine).
Or, though I've never read it, I heard that My Favorite Song ~The Silver Siren~ (Novel) is somewhat like this.

I would also take suggestions like The Devil is a Part-Timer!--he doesn't do many villainous things in the anime, unfortunately, but it has some of the same things I'm looking for (traveling to another world and role-reversal).

Thanks in advance!

I know you're looking for anime or manga, but novels seem to be the majority of the content you're looking for. It's hard to find a manga or anime with the protag becoming a villain in another world.
Sorry, but I'll recommend you some of the things I've read.

Kyuuketsu Hime wa Barairo no Yume o Miru (Novel) Protag is seen as the empress of an evil monster empire by the rest of the world.

Yobidasareta Satsurikusha (Novel) This guy is just a mass murderer and he likes it. Hard to get more villainous than that.

Suterareta Yuusha no Eiyuutan (Novel) Revenge, brainwashing and enslavement.

Himekishi ga Classmate! - Isekai Cheat de Dorei ka Harem (Novel) Sexual enslavement, some poorly written rape and poorly written sex scenes.

Yuusha Party no Kawaii Ko ga Ita no de, Kokuhaku Shite Mita. (Novel) This is a lot like Hataraku Maou. Protag is technically the bad guy.

Jashin Average (Novel) Evil God. Nothing much more to say.

You could try The Queen's Knight. People start off suspicious of the main character, then she's kinda the hero...and then not so much.

Hm...

In Cavalier of the Abyss, the protagonist from its prequel Immortal Regis has now become the villain in the eyes of several people. (Though honestly I found the prequel mediocre and the sequel worthwhile only once it hits its halfway point.)

Lasboss x Hero is kind of like this. Though mainly it's more like "neutral character gets transported and decides to become the Big Bad."

Ditto for Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari. More like a "good guy misunderstood as a villain" type thing.

Same for Moon-led Journey Across Another World. Though this one is more like, "protagonist is cursed so that only monsters like him."

Overlord is probably the best fit for this request, if you haven't read it yet.

And for protagonists who become various types of creatures/non-humans (that are viewed as enemies by typical RPG standards), Re:Monster (which I honestly find to be a drag), Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, and Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? ...There is also apparently a tag for Reincarnated as a Monster. Who'd've thunk?

Thanks for the replies friendssmile

silencecomes I've never actually read any light novels all the way through but not because I wasn't interested. It's just hard to know where to start. But these look really great so I will have to give them a shot.

empressasuka This looks really interesting and the summary kind of reminds me of Red River. Also it's completed, so thanks for the rec.

Suxinn I've watched the anime for Overlord and that's a great example (though the anime itself was a bit of a mess... I heard the novels are much less confusing). But I'm interested in the "hero on the monsters' side" aspect, so thanks for these recommendations.
