So what did people think of the finale?
I couldn't help feeling disappointed. I felt like the pacing was all over the place, and the Madarame harem arc was utterly pointless; it acted as if Madarame was really going to be revealed as bi or even gay, and I was surprised by the sensitivity that was given, but in the end I thought neither of the characters' resolutions were satisfying. I'm perfectly happy with Mada staying attracted to women and growing as a person but it felt so bait-and-switch to hint at something that was ultimately tossed away.
I'm a diehard romance fan but I think my biggest gripe with Nidaime is its overflow of romance. It would've been, again to me personally, more enjoyable had it focused more on the manga/anime/gaming changes that the club and its new members were involved in. I loved the explorations on fujoshi, fudanshi, female-oriented doujinshi, etc. and wish that had stayed in the spotlight.
Ah well. As much as I enjoyed some of it, "Second Season" was too uneven for me to add alongside the OG
Genshiken. ________________
