This week's poll comes from our member mr.poneis. You know how sometimes there's a bunch of biographical information for a character that isn't important to the plot usually? It's stuff like birthday, blood type, favorite food, favorite music, etc. For that kind of stuff, do you have any opinions about looking into those details?

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Question: Would you read a manga adaptation of an American comic? (Marvel, DC, etc)
Choices:
Yes, of course! - votes: 1485 (12.6%)
I might try it - votes: 4775 (40.5%)
Probably not - votes: 3698 (31.4%)
No way - votes: 1824 (15.5%)
There were 11782 total votes.
The poll ended: August 20th 2016

Looks like stuff like this already exists. Check out Batman (KUWATA Jirou)

I went with "No opinion," because, while I don't usually care about character bios, some mangaka do a really good job relating them to the story in interesting ways, or just making them amusing to flip through at the end of a volume. Particularly in slice-of-life/school-life and comedies; the character introductions in Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou are a good example.

No opinion actually.
I can't care less. Details being there or not totally doesn't matter...I can always skip it.
Shounen like Fairy tail does it sometimes on the front of particular chapters...I'll just look over the art and skip the text.

The 2 week poll increased the vote count but the discussion was still a small one. US comics are life, US comics are love.

All the details are awesome! Obviously not all, besides the bust size info for my underage waifus laugh , but good authors can give us valuable background info. This forces an opinion.
The ones in Titan are just fluff, i don´t even bother, but the ones in Naruto have valuable creative insights. These can be actually highly important to the plot and aren´t a Japanese invention. Watchmen featured a proper psychoanalysis of Rorschach for example, and multiple pieces of supplementary material, as extracts from Nite Owl (I)´s biography, drove the overall plot. The complete cut of the Snyder adaptation weaved a lot of them in masterfully and even came with a 30 min. in-universe documentary to adapt as much of these details in as possible.

All the details are awesome... I will even give manga a higher rating if it is detailed...

No opinion, some authors put some funny info there, but I usually skip this stuff if I don't care.

About blood types: I wonder, if we check all the various characters that are supposed to be related by blood, is it possible to find evidence of unfaithfulness? How careful are the authors with genetics?

I didn't answer, because I do like information about a character's personality or history, but I dislike trivial details like blood type and birthday.

Details like birthday or blood type don't interest or matter to me, but when a mangaka writes those, they usually include other details that I do find interesting, such as likes/dislikes regarding food/hobbies and even fun quirks the characters may have.

So I do end up reading those.

I vote "no opinion" since I actually dont care about them at all, but I would never say "don't include them."

Usually like reading about little details such as likes and dislikes of a character, so I voted for the first option eyes

In my opinion, details should be put into the works. That's the duty of an author. Outside information has little value and I'm usually uninterested. What's more, it's often rather cheap addition, and even if it was to add some big backgrounds I would still usually consider it worthless. The only example I can think of is what J.K. Rowling is doing with spin off encyclopedias and whatsoever. Not that care about HP anyway, but I think it's pretty superficial and it's just money pumping.
