Takagi Shigeyoshi (Hana ni Arashi) certainly sounds like a male name to me. I'm not sure if the mangaka's really a male, though.

The name does sound kind of male to me too, but the kanji listed on this site are definitely for a woman's name, and wikipedia says she's the twin sister of some other mangaka.

Quote from lys Whoa! I didn't realize Tanaka Meca was a guy. Hahah. I'd be interested to see who gets suggested here too. All I can think of is Motomi Kyousuke, who has a guy's name (but I'm not sure if they are actually a guy or woman)...
I love the shoujo's done by that author, so i definitely second any of his work, especially Dengeki Daisy

Oops. Figured that out a few weeks ago but forgot to update/edit my post. The kanji 美 in her name certainly is typical woman's name, but it can be read 'yoshi'... which makes it sound like a male name. @_@
If I can choose a Japanese name for myself, I'd like to have one which can be read like hers, too!

Definetly MOTOMI Kyousuke. When I noticed that she was in fact a "he" I really shocked. He's just one of my favourite shojo mangakas, he's brilliant, hilarous and his mangas are very very touching.
Love him!

Actually it's not uncommon that men's names have the kanji 美.

Motomi Kyousuke is the only one I remember. I'm sticking to the idea of him/her being a he. o.o

Motomi Kyousuke is female isn't she - she just has a male pseudonym... It says she's female on the author's page. I'm gonna feel like an idiot if she is a he...

^Well I googled his (?) name and on his facebook page, he's classed as male but on mangahelpers, this site and a couple of forums, it seems that he is actually female

I know it..but in his page here on Baka-Updates it is written that Takamiya Satoru is a male! In the comments it says: "Don't let the name fool you! Satoru Takamiya is a man".
