some hentai artist sometimes do manga series, but i wonder if they ever go back to their roots and make a "doujin side" of their own work.

i wonder if it's an unspoken rule not too.

will fans drop the series if the mangaka did?

i would love to see manga like HSOTD or infinite stratos get a doujin from the official artist. i got curious because the creator of maken-ki did a 1 page omake in a maken-ki doujin. just found it today when i started reading the maken-ki manga and figured doujins of these girls would be hot.

Well, there is IIDA Pochi.. The series Ane Naru Mono began as two chapters worth of H, the latter of which included an announcement of serialization. Somewhere around the 4-5 chapter mark of the series Pochi also made a 3rd chapter for the H doujin continuum.

Though in this case, it is a case where the doujin is serialized but then continues concurrently with the series. Whether they are parallel works or belong to the same time continuum remains to be seen, though the former seems likely as the series has a certain melancholy undercurrent to its narration that the doujins lack.

Bastard!! got official porn despite the Jump roots, and more exists, but it´s usually from mangaka who started doing porn and then switched to Seinen porn. I rare example of a "mangaka" who didn´t start with porn (allegedly...) is Dall-Young´s Cross Make.

It happens pretty often with yaoi/BL mangaka but I see it less often in straight works and I don't know why that is. I know sometimes a series gets dropped by the publisher and the author continues it as a self published work, like Blood Alone but that's pretty uncommon.

I've seen it happen many times before when they want to draw their characters nude.
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase's author did a bunch of his characters from that commercial series.
