I was wondering if there're any good series involving a very subtle race or class that is treated extremely differently. By subtle I mean that there's little if anything you can see to indicate that an individual is a member of the race. The sort of thing where you could know a person well and not know they're part of that race. Possibly the individual may grow up not knowing either, or it could even be something that can't be proven with outward indications, but still anyone who's one of "them" is treated very differently, such as being treated as an "enemy" or an "inferior". For classes, I'm particularly interested in classes that you can become without warning (up to and including being sold into slavery) or that again can't be immediately recognized, to the extent that a person could suddenly become a member of this class or you could know them and see no difference between them and others, but everything you've known says that this class is different and should be treated differently.

Two examples come to mind. The first is the Cursed Children of Black Bullet. Enju was able to go to school for a good while before people found out that she was one of these, because they all look just like normal little girls, but because they have a dormant monster virus inside them they're all treated like either subhuman animals or monsters that need to be eliminated. The other example is the anime Gundam SEED and the "coordinators". These are completely normal people, except that procedures have been done at/before conception to enhance their capabilities from a genetic level. Again you can't see the difference on the outside at all, and someone could live his life being thought of as just a really smart and skilled guy, but those that are outed tend to be treated very differently. They may be treated as enemies due to a war going on against a nation of Coordinators, or just as somehow different, and it's very typical for any accomplishment to be belittled as something they'd naturally be able to do.

Ilegenes - Kokuyou no Kiseki maybe ... there are clones / modified clones, so sometimes you can tell the difference sometimes you can't and they can be sold. ... its been a while since i read part of it so I'm not sure if it fits.

Ajin comes immediately to mind where no one knows until they die and come back alive and even when they do come back alive they look exactly as they did before, no injuries. And well, if people find out about you, you get experimented on by getting killed again and again and again.

That's about the only one I can think of.

Gangsta. has Twilights, who all wear dog tags. Not sure I would call it "subtle" in its execution though.

Seiketsu no Haguruma has a conflict between those with red blood and those with blue.

Megalomania -- Only the MC is indistinguishable from humans though.
