Quote from Lija-chan
Like what halfhearted said...
this series isn't really concentrating on Kyoko's revenge just coz it started from that...or her and Ren getting together.
But it was more of finding herself. Something she can be proud and was made by her own strength.

It may drag a bit but I'm not annoyed at the whole series just for that fact.

So I'm truly anticipating for more from this series and my favorite mangaka.

To those people who do NOT appreciate this series.
C'mon! You people who comment this series is stupid...please act like a grown-up, I can tell you're just saying this because you dunno anything about Skip Beat!.
Sure, maybe you've read a chapter or two or even a volume...
but that's not enough for you to criticize this series. (I know some people around here who reads series not even worth big points...and yet gives Skip Beat a score unworthy of it. Tsk tsk...all I can say is, you're NOT being fair AT ALL. -shakes head- You're nothing just coz you said Skip Beat! isn't worth the read. I've seen a LOT of guys read this series and love it to the point that they talk about it a lot and always stay in a forum about it. Nope, they're not homosexual either. O_o Pure men. -nods- They know how to appreciate a good story right in front of them...other than some out there... -shakes head-)

i have read full 12 volumes and so i CAN say that it is NOT a good manga.. first of all it is TOO slow. if you skip 2 or 3 volumes and see nothing changes then that means that series isn't worth to read because nothing happens and i can't seem to understand the connection between guys=good shoujo no

No at all, I think this series is awesome and I eagerly anticipate every new release. (All right, to be honest, I didn't like one or two of the x-mas party episodes, but that's it.) I think you feel like the series drags because you are so excited by it and can't wait for the next exciting turn.

The difference with this manga is that all the changes and revelations are usually on a more subtle note than what we are used to (delicate nuances). If he suddenly confessed his love in the next episode there'd be nothing left but for the mysterious ex-girlfriend to show up and attack! etc, etc. the same stuff we've seen over and over again blah blah how boring.

I like this series because it's different and unique, and part of that uniqueness is Kyouko's subtle transformation as she overcomes each new chanllenge. Yes it feels like a complex novel where I sometimes want to skip to the end, but it's all these little things that will bring me back to read the series over and over again when it's finished. I hope it lasts forever.

What I'm saying is, the series is definately not dragging, it's changing in subtle ways.

Also, it's way freaking better than those mangas where the fight scenes are dragged out through 1000 chapters! I mean, come on! How many times can you punch someone and it's still exiting! eek

I personally don't feel that the manga is dragging on.
What I must first make clear is that for me Skip Beat is a very good Shounen rather than a Shoujo. It's about Kyoko's growth as a character and an actress rather than her love interests.

So I don't much care about the romance except in the event that it impacts Kyoko development.
Though I also feel that some of you are missing the point : Kyoko already knows she's in love with Ren, she just won't admit it, even to herself, in fact she's actively fighting the notion, she's very good at this "repressing" stuff. And come on, if you read Skip Beat to see the same romance as in every other Shoujo in the creation, you're on the wrong boat (fortunately) !

Besides, some of you complain about the party arc : it only takes something like 5 chapters and there's a lot of "non-party related" hints hidden in there (link to Kyoko/Kuon past, friendship with Moko, father theme (who the h*** is Kyoko's father anyway ?)). I'm pretty sure you found it annoying because you had to read it in small pieces with a long time between each. I try to read by block of at least 4 chapters so for me it seemed pretty short and sweet, not annoying at all. bigrazz

The latest arc is interesting as well though I'll wait to see how Chiorin situation evolves.

For me I thought the story was starting to drag after that incident with Sho and the Vie Ghouls. It's like the Ku arc wasn't all that interesting and I waited for the Christmas arc to finish before really reading the series again. Right now the Box R arc is getting my attention but I really wished after this arc Ren will start to hint Kyoko more, I mean she's those really dense characters but Ren is super slow! I really love the comedy of this manga but I just wish Nakamura will add more romance into this!

I started to lose interest at a certain point with the party arc, but man, the author caught me off guard with the new one. It's constantly keeping me on the edge of my seat. Now I can't wait until the next release...

I agree with halfhearted and Lija-chan here!
Are you guys seriously a Nakamura-sensei fan? Have you read the other works of hers?
If you’re really reading SKIP BEAT , please, at least, pay attention to the plot!

This not a story about a country girl who gets dumped by the Prince of the School, then she turns up ending with a better guy as a grand finale. If that was the only matter here, we could make a One-Shot ! Duh!

This is a story about a girl who lived her entire life for a boy that only used her, and when she gets dumped, she realizes that she doesn’t have anything to live for!

She doesn’t even think that it is worth to live for her own self!
She doesn’t think she has a use or importance to the world anymore!
She realizes that she doesn’t even know who she is !
Because everything she liked or learnt, did or said, was all because of him.

This manga is about a girl who wants grow strong and discover her true colors.
[echoooo…] biggrin

After all that happens with Sho, Kyoko doesn’t even want to love or be loved anymore. She thinks that Love is a Weakness and all those who love are idiots who are begging to be hurt.

So, how do you think she’s supposed to confess to Ren? If Kyoko really admits that she loves him, she would hate herself for it. that's why she's always repressing this feeling. She’s already more than grateful for having him around, because now he’s the voice inside her head. But she’s not prepared to love again. Neither Ren is.

Tsuruga Ren is another problem. He’s so complex! All about his past is so intricate and problematic. He’s a huge enigma to me. And I like it. Nakamura-sensei should invest more chapters on him. He is also not read to love, although he’s pretty much certain that Kyoko is the one. But, also, he respects her and he won’t push himself on her because he totally understands her situation.

Aneste, frankly, read to the end, and read with your heart, not only eyes, hon… cuz you probably lost something, or else, this story would have turned you… embarrassed bigrazz

About the so-commented Christmas Party, that was a pretty important part for the plot development. I totally agree with you, Jedai. Not only about the hidden hints, but also the fact that Kyoko heals Maria’s heart.

If you pay attention to their relationship, you’ll realize that Kyoko can reach Maria because they are both in the same boat. Both of them believe they are not worth being loved. Maria thinks that her mother death is her fault and she can’t ask her father to love her because she already took away from him his most important person.

But, at the party, Maria learn that she can ask for love, and that even when she believes she’s not being loved or cared, she still have her beloved ones around her, at the backstage, waiting until she resolves to open up herself.
Kyoko didn’t tell anyone about her birthday. Still, Ren was there for her.
That’s the party arc importance.

When the Natsu arc started, I really thought it would be pretty boring… but I’m starting to get it now. It’s about Kyoko learning to be more confident. If I remember quite well, Ren even said that after Natsu, Kyoko wouldn’t ever be the same woman again.

Kyoko haven’t realized yet her potential, the fierce, the presence she has! I’m sure that, when Nakamura-sensei is done with this part of the plot, we’ll see a totally new Kyoko arise!

So, wait and see, you might think that Nakamura-sensei is dragging the story, but she’ll catch out of guard! eyes

After all, good mangas like Skip Beat and Han Yori Dango takes time to evolve, but they linger in you hearts and memories forever……

Till then, I’ll keep chanting prays that this story reaches the 36th volume!

Ho-ho-ho!!! [Evil Kyoko laugh!] laugh

Well, I think that the party arc and natsu arc both started off slow and got hung up on a limited time frame per chapter (almost like dragonball z where 30 seconds = 5 episodes). When you compared to earlier arcs where progress was made in every chapter rather than every 3-5 chapters I can see where people are getting annoyed with.

Couple that with it being a monthly series the pace becomes even slower as perceived by readers. But once the chapters stop focusing on that one moment and moves time forward as the pages advance it gets more comfortable and enjoyable.

Like you said, it's Nakamura-sensei, like it or not something will happen (usually later rather than sooner), but it'll be worth it when it does happen. smile

Wow, I just finished reading this whole thread, since I finished watching Skip Beat Anime episode 14, and I was curious about if chapter 134 came out yet lol laugh

And the post that made the most sense to me was ffleur XD Girl, I love you! For defending Skip Beat, and Nakamura-sensei! So much evidence, and good points raised :'D I couldn't of done a better job :3 lol. I agreed with everything you said, of course. Hehe~ smile wink grin

I actually don't feel like it was dragging, since I really like plots where a person finds their true selves and especially where that person has a talent and they show it off! ;D I'm glad Ren nor Kyoko confessed yet, since seeing them trying to avoid their feelings are so cute! >w<

Ah, and the Natsu Arc = My favorite! Kyoko looks so mature and oozing elegantness :3 LOVE IT! <3'

I also hope that this series would reach the 36th volume! But that means, I'll be broke by then! eek

To me I'm not annoyed because it is really slow. First of all, if someone got dumped, it'll take them a long time to find new love. If someone used you and dumped you and you really love that person, you'll take a heck long time to fall in love and find a new love again. The point of Skip Beat is about Kyoko's love life and showbiz life. Love Me was created for those that lack love in areas. if you were Kyoko, and someone you truly love dumped you, you'll be scar for life. Abuses puts scars on you, family problems too, there are girls out there that are scared of guys because of what their father done. These are some of the problems of skip beat. Showbiz is like a set of stairs that'll help Kyoko find the courage to find new love again. Even though sometimes i get annoyed cause their romance is taking a long time to develop, but to a fraglie person, you'll give them time to recover from emotional damages. Even though she and Sho fixed their ties, she can still remember those times. And anyways, I love skip beat too much that I'm getting really annoyed that a new chapter hasn't come out yet..but then again this is my opinion on this subject

It drags.

But It's worth it for the Ren x Kyoko action that happens every 5 volumes or so!
[Lol. Sarcasm...]

I just hope Sho dies or something, it would suck if she ends up with him at the end... -.-;

I do feel that the manga is going quite slow...especially in the romance department. It has been kind of dragging along now, but the romance is starting to pick up pace...though still very very slow. Maybe the mangaka finally noticed how impatient everyone was about it, so she's trying to speed it up. XD
I think Skip Beat is a great manga, though I feel that it's too long right now...

I like it. (although all those volumes will cost me some money!) I mean it so much more real and so much more relatable. Because it's not going so fast makes it and her more special, she had to go through hardships all her life. If you just want her to, in 2 or 3 volumes, fall in love and become a super famous celebrity then it's just more fantasy again. If it's like that then it only sounds like some cheap Disney movie.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
And the reason Ren won't say anything is because he has this trauma where he seriously believes he doesn't have a right to be happy but he cares for her for real.
And if Kyoko suddenly became this attractive gorgeous star from the beginning then the story would have lost lost it's meaning: The only way to reach your dreams is to work for them and never give up because hey, life is never easy. This is what makes the series more meaningful because it isn't about some other girl who just wants to get a guy and live happily-ever-after, no it's about a girl who wants to find herself and be able to love again. And Ren having a dark side makes him more real too because real guys aren't perfect but when you love them for real there's nothing about them that makes you think you're better off with someone else. Sho is a pretty shallow guy but he also has real feelings. To me, Kyoko is a real teenage girl with the maturity of an adult and innocence of a child. I love that these characters are so relatable and so realistic. And each of them has those little quirks that annoy the heck out of me but I still love them.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The things that annoy me: Kyoko: OMG! Tsuruga-san hates me!!! No!!! *goes into a negative spiral* / / Ren: Stay calm! Don't hug her! or She'll never talk to me again . . . *goes into an even more negative spiral* / / Sho: Well, as long as she thinks I love her all probs are solved and then I'll get a lil' something *wink wink* / / Yeah, these things totally bug me.

And one thing I've learned in life is that if you can fall in love really easily then it's easier to fall out of it.
. . .
Why do I always type so much? confused . . . oh well, toodles! wink

I think the series is going to be only about 30 volumes. And if it's more, I'll keep buying more, but I, too, will be broke by then! sad But it's such a good series so yes! eyes I'll keep buying it!

Well, I have read all the chapters of the Skip Beat! manga that available on the net (i.e. up to ch. 137). In my opinion, the manga didn't drag on and the Mangaka didn't try to drag out the manga; the socalled fillers (the "parties") has their purposes and is mostly linked with the main arcs. I think the manga is still at the very beginning since Kyoko is still a beginning actress who has a lot to learn and will meet more rivals and friends; I really like the character development of Kyoko. I guess there would be a rivalry between Ren and Sho when Nakamura Sensei finally decides to add romance in the manga besides Kyoko's coming of age. Also there's a chance that Kyoko (if Nakamura Sensei wants it) becoming a J-pop singer besides the acting (Show-biz is big, right!? And Sho is an singer/rockstar; if Kyoko really wants to compete she has to become a singer - a singing career is almost inevitable); that would be so great (even more for a new anime adaptation with so many insert songs by Kyoko). So, there is a lot of space for development in the manga. Also what I really like is that the manga does not only focus on Kyoko but also on other characters like Ren, Kanae, Maria and other people with their own problems and history. There's so much potential in Skip Beat.
