I consonantally listen to film / game OSTs but "only" occasionally to anime ones. Yōko Kanno and Susumu Hirasawa are the MVPs of the anime scene.
I always have music running in a separate YouTube tab during reading and i listen via 5,1 headphones.

I do on occasion, despite not watching anime.
I might not have the emotional connection that comes from being invested in a series,
but I appreciate the good music nonetheless.

I still listen to some songs from more than 10 years ago lol. In fact, this is still one of my favorites.

Not Cautionary Warning? A shame that the actual anime is pretty eh, but it did originate the legendary "anime black guy" meme. First hit on google, you legend of racism you!
Macross 7 is another show only noteworthy for it´s top of the line music.

Here is a 10/10 anime OST from a show that can´t even get subs, despite being by Madhouse + Tezuka. The opening to Hidamari no Ki.

Here is our related Your favorite anime OP/ED thread btw:

I actually also still listen to Cautionary Warning and also still a favorite of mine. Although if I have to pick, Let Me Go Let You Go is a better favorite.

Ruroni Kenshin imo also had a decent selection. They're mostly alternatives, but they were also nice to listen to. Sobakasu, Tactics, The Fourth Avenue Cafe, It's Gonna Rain - I still listen to them.

I listen to a few anime songs, but it's not even often enough to say occasionally. My favorite OST would be the one for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. But actually I'm not even a fan of that anime. I tried watching it, but just couldn't get into it.

A bit of a question, do most anime release like full length soundtracks, or do they usually just have the opening and ending songs?

I listen to a couple once in a while but I haven't found one that I really liked since Macross Frontier. Then again, I don't watch as much anime as I used to.

I don't know about 'most', but maaaany of them do. There was never a case when I wanted to listen to an OST (relatively often, as I even sometimes choose anime because of its composer) and it was never released.

Fairly often, when I'm doing some reading or whatnot that I need some white noise for.

I don't usually tend to think of them as anime OSTs, though. More like instrumental music composed by people I like. There's a lot of JRPG/Visual Novel OSTs mixed in there too that I listen to.

To this day, my favorite anime OST remains the .hack//SIGN one. And my favorite game OST is Shikata Akiko's wonderful Hanakisou compositions.
