Yeah, I read your previous comments regarding this topic as well, and with all due respect, you're being overly-sensitive regarding this tag.

It's just a category tag, not some kind of geo-political statement. It describes a significant, fictional story element.......that's all.

And as far as it ...

I can't help but laugh at this line of conversation.

I find gender bender stories offensive, and thus it should be removed.

Rather, should take it as a story I'm just not interested in instead?

Wait, that movie is rated R. We should remove the tag/rating. The world would be much better off not knowing what they are about to read/watch.

A tag is just a tag.

Heh.....yes smile

I understand this tag (heck, all of those "R" tags) can strike emotional chords, but it's still just "more information" on a site that deals in just that ...........both the "abortion" and the "amputee/s" tags give me the heebie jeebies to be honest, but that doesn't really warrant me asking Merriam-Webster to take those words out of the dictionary, or this site to do away with tags that legitimately describe/denote story content.

You're damn right I will.

At the ultimate crux, the tag is subjective in nature. It's like allowing a tag called "stupid plot".

it is an unsettling tag but unfortunately there are manga out there that this tag applies to. At least this way you can see the tag and know that manga is probably one you would not enjoy reading.

Rape IS a bad thing. I agree, in all these stories, the rapist is either forgiven or it's a case of Stockholm syndrome or some other circumstance.

I suggest it be named to "Normalization of Rape" or "Rape is Trivialized", so that sensibilities of people are not offended.
Why should people's sensibilities be kept in mind?- That's simple, because we are supposed to be a cultured society where every human being's emotions are "worth" something. And an issue like this, which means A LOT to 50% of the population of this world, I'd say, for the sake of humanity, please, keep this in mind.

I SINCERELY appeal to the admins here, to KINDLY make this change to keep ALL sides satisfied.

Why is this tag allowed? It's clearly a subjective tag. Is somehow the "rape" suddenly insufficient?

I reported it many months ago and haven't seen any action on this.

Tags exist to describe various plot points.
It's not up to you or anyone to decide what should be "allowed".
If the story already exists and it has certain themes you're uncomfortable with... Well, tough shit, my dear.

The next step is to ask "why do we even allow manga that features rape on this site?"

How so? You can say the same thing about "smart female/male lead".
Everything depends on the story and the way characters treat/deal with things.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. There's a tag that's in use, so people clearly find a use for it.
Nobody is making a statement by using it. They're describing an element that exists in a given work.
These aren't sufficient reasons to take people's "sensibilities" into account. Everyone has their own hangups. Are we going to try to cater to everyone with each and every little thing they disagree with? I'd like to see you try crawling out of that mess.

Surely, words convey things. Sentences convey things.

What "Rape isn't considered a bad thing" describes is exactly that! That the story considers rape to be absolutely fine, except, that statement itself is a fallacy, since that is not upto the author/story to decide for the reader! In a particular setting, Rape may be used in various ways, but intrinsically- rape is sex without consent. The value judgement regarding it -whether the rape in a story "is bad or not" is upto the reader to decide. The Category cannot describe something that doesn't exist in the first place!

Say child marriages are common in a manga story. The setting of the manga may "normalize" it, but it's upto the reader to form a judgement about the concept of "child marriage". Thus a tag like "Child marriage is considered good/Child marriage is not considered bad" is a SILLY tag, which suggests lack of application of the mind.

Hence, I suggested the use of a neutral word that describes a phenomena that exists in the story- leaving the decision to judge Rape as bad/not in the story, upto the reader to decide.

What an apt way to put it! Anyone reading with a clear mind would get your point.

I'm personally taking NightSwan's words (Forum Moderator) as the final say on this topic and won't be back after this.

Just a tag, folks. It describes (and yes, the wording of the tag itself does so very well in the examples that come to mind for me) a specific story element. Not necessarily a pretty story element.......much like the "sex slave/s" or the "forced prostitution" tags......but a legitimate story element all the same.

The point of the tag is to differentiate between the opinions of the rape in the story. If you dont want to read a story where rape is glossed over as if its not a big deal then that tag is there to warn people of that fact.

Whereas if it just has the Rape tag its just there to inform you that the story has rape. Every tag has a purpose and this one is there so you can be warned before you read and to avoid it if you dont like that.

REMEMBER FOLKS You can remove a tag from your search results by putting - infront of it.

such as:
-Rape Isn't Considered a Bad Thing

This shit is going nowhere fast... The tag is technically "based" on this: Traumatic bonding
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traumatic_bonding

The only thing the tag needs is a better name, as such entries objectively exist on MU.
Let´s be productive children! For once... and workshop a new name. There are obviously (hentai) manga that blatantly say that rape is great, with such a goal in mind for all characters featured, but nothing will every fit perfectly under the broad umbrella the category currently represents. We arguably need 2 tags but similar themes are already covered. Shrug. Go here if you know how to do it better.

Okay. So, obviously the tag shouldn't get removed because it's offensive. Otherwise lots of tags would get removed. Putting aside my feelings from an author's standpoint I think the tag should get removed because there's enough tags to cover that sort of thing. To me it's like this

You have the tags
- school
- elementary/middle/ high school
- college
- private school.

And then someone started to make private elementary/middle/high school tags.
It's just not needed.

But if people still feel it would help. The tag should be renamed, and a second one should be added. Mostly because I think with its current name the tag is being misused ... a lot... (That's a valid reason right? Changing the name of a tag commonly being misused.)

Have this one get changed to 'rapist forgiven' or 'rape glossed over' or 'rape plays a minor role in the plot' or something.
The second tag for those different hentai, maybe something like 'world where rape is legal' or something.

With this option the new tag could just get downvoted/ reported for not fitting the story. There's a new way to help readers find/avoid things and the misuse of the tag won't cause an uproar like it has.
I think this would be a win/win right?

I think you're misunderstading the intended function of tags. Tags are not genres. Tags by design should be more dsescriptive in order to give somone the most accurate idea of the manga. This helps searching and avoiding very specific themes. A high school manga is very different from an elemntary school manga. What would be more apt in this case is the School Life genre, which can be searched from.

If I wanted to read a coming of age story, highschool would be a much more appropriate tag. Elementary and middle shool would probably not have the themes I would be looking for.
