Now i know what your probably thinking, that this questions has been asked millions of times. But anyways. Which genre do you thin is better? and Which genre do you read the most of?

I think both are good in different ways. I dislike how many shounen series go on forever end, which is not a problem with shoujo manga? However I definitely like action (fighting) in the manga, makes it exciting, but I also value relationships - most shoujo manga. Personally, CLAMP has been the best in blending that together smile

Although, One Piece and Bleach are definitely one of my favs~

I can understand both sides and i think it is only fair that there are manga from the view of both sexes.

I haven't read any of shoujo mangas so i wouldn't know, but i just like to read stuff from the guy's prespective. I prefer mild action with a dropback into romance, but once again, i prefer it from the guy's prespective.

Bah, it's hard for me to decide. I think a heavy focus on action or romance ruins most manga, but if I had to pick one I'd pick shounen because shounen almost has to incorporate other elements. People are quicker to admit that a pile of baseless action and adventure is stupid but baseless romance is just fine.

Shounen if it's light-hearted comedy, shoujo if it's a tad deeper and/or more tragic. More or less the same balance for seinen and josei, with depth of story up a notch. In both cases I tend to look for romance, though for shounen/seinen I have a bias towards slice-of-life and gender-benders. Go figure.

Example:
Shounen: My Balls laugh (if you don't like this one, you fail as a man, imo bigrazz )
Shoujo: Skip Beat!

I tend to stay away from shounen action, because I like to see that animated instead. Heck, shounen titles in general fits well in anime depending on who's making it. Naruto, Bleach, Initial D... all are titles that go well in manga, but between manga and anime, there's no contest in my lazy ass' mind. Can't compete black-and-white versus color+sound+movement. Total opposite for shoujo romance where the pace is often so slow that I'd fall asleep watching it. Exceptions are in the likes of Ouran; I can't stand the manga, but the anime's very well done.

I like both, for different reasons. Honestly though, both are very generic genres, so it's a little hard to really say much about either. But speaking stereotypically... I find that shounen titles tend to have less in the way of a compelling plot or character development. On the flip side, the art for some shoujo titles really puts me off (ie. Glass Mask, which some people were pushing in another thread, honestly looks kinda freaky to me).

A lot of the really popular shounen titles get too long for their own good too, IMHO. Animating them tends to exacerbate that (classical example: DBZ and those boring episodes of idiots starting at each other and powering up). Drawn-out plots = loss of interest for me. It can still be entertaining, but I tend to find myself rating stuff lower and lower as they get longer and longer.

When it comes down to it...it really is WHAT you prefer to read, rather than what is "better". I am a huge shoujo addict, but my top 5 are all shonen/seinen.
And I think that's because they focus on themes rather than relationships.
I LOVE relationship/slice of life manga but it's not as interesting as reading about something you are not very familiar with and becomiing engrossed in it.
I think the atmosphere of the manga also plays a role in that. What's more entertaining? fluffy flowers and huge watery in-love eyes, or a story about a Doctor gone mad with the persuit of a killer he saved?

I'm just saying.....

(I love fluff tho)

I read both, but I prefer shoujo. Just not typical shoujo plots/characters.

I don't particulary like ether Shoujo or Shounen. Shoujo are way too... boring and clice, and shounen are usually mainstream and clice as well...
Of corse there are several exceptions, like Fruits Basket.

But, if I look at the generes here, I suppose I love female shounen mangaka's, like Amatsuki, Dolls, Switch, D.Gray-man, FMA etc...

I think both genres are good, but I mostly read shounen. But then again it's about your own taste
