This week's poll is similar to the one a few weeks ago about long manga series, but our member zeazea suggested anime. I didn't like zeazea's options though, so I made it more similar to the manga poll.

For comparison's sake, here's some numbers for the number of episodes (taken from Wikipedia), Please note that some of these are still ongoing, so the numbers are as of today:
Original Naruto: 220
Naruto: Shippuden: 500
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (original in US): 224
Pokemon (original): 279
Dragon Ball Z: 291
Bleach: 366
One Piece: 797
Crayon Shin-chan: 937
Doraemon (2005): 865
Doraemon (1979): 1787
Sazae-san: 7542

Think I'll go with 200 on this one. I've never watched anything with more than 26 episodes yet, but I do plan on watching the anime adaptations of Haikyu!! and Hunter x Hunter soon, so that'll change.

I'm far less sure about this answer than I was about manga. Probably cause I don't watch anime nearly as much, and it all depends on whether it's adapting a long manga series or not. I find anime filler a lot more irritating than manga filler, though. All that bandwidth and HDD space, wasted on nothing!

I chose 50 volumes as a necessarily cut-off point with manga and HxH 2011 adapted 32 volumes in 148 episodes. The initial pacing was a bit fast, yet the later eps. were too slow. A properly paced anime adaptation can usually do justice to about 8 volumes in 26 eps, so 50 volumes would still clock in under 200 eps. That´s undeniably the maximum cut-off point for quality, as no Star Trek series managed to last longer.
Even the premium length Legend of the Galactic Heroes (FUJISAKI Ryu) (best anime ever) OVA finished with 162 eps. + 1 special and film. No anime needs to be longer than LoGH!

It's never too long. But, depending on the series even 10 episodes maybe too long. I mean who would wanna watch one with sloppy and silly story? Not me, at least.

I think this is missing an option. While manga can have an "It's never too long" option, anime has something troublesome in anime-only filler episodes that may or may not contradict later story elements. Those fillers can greatly expand the number of episodes. So I think there should be an option for "never too long while still following the source material".

Sazae-san airs with three segments in a half-hour broadcast. So, yes, there are 7,500+ segments, but 2,500+ is more accurate whether you're looking at episodes aired or total runtime.

Doraemon episodes were around 10 minutes prior to 2005, so even though they've aired 2,600+ episodes the total runtime would be more like 1,600+ regular anime episodes.

I'll vote for 200 episodes as there are only a few I've watched that have had more than that and it was only because I was in high school and had a lot of time. Now I see that an anime has 52 episodes and I think it would be a pain in the ass to start it, but this mostly depends on the anime. Even though I say 52 episodes seems like a pain in the ass, a while ago I basically watched Hunter x Hunter 2011 as if I were a kid eating candy like crazy. I watched around 60-80 episodes in a few days and then it was the moment when I stopped being so impressed by it, but still... and it's because of H x H 2011 that I say 200 it's too long and not 100. There are also a few other anime that seem good that have a bit more than 100 episodes, so there is that.

There is an exception to the 200 episodes is too long and that's Gintama. I almost forgot about, but Gintama also has a shitton of episodes, but I watched it slowly and I love comedy.

One Piece being as long as 50 black men together is what puts me off. From AMVs it seems like it has really good parts, but it's just too long.

The number of episodes doesn't matter. The density of content does. If you can skip an episode or two without missing out on anything important than the content is not dense enough.

+1.
Sometimes even 2 episodes are already too long - and sometimes you watch 52 episodes in a row and think "what, is it over already? The story has just started, surely they can make at least 10x more!"

This poll is f00ked.

IMO a series is only too long if a significant portion of the episodes are fillers. (e.g. Fushigi no Umi no Nadia; 26 eps)
