I was talking with someone about different movies, shows, etc, that break the Fourth wall earlier today and I became curious about how often the concept might be used in manga.

I think Hayate no Gotuku does this on occasion, but I couldn't think of any others that do, so I just thought I'd ask out of curiosity if anyone knows of any others.

I know for sure that Dragonball does it somewhere in the early volumes. And there are references to the writer in Cross Game, like that one of the characters reads Cross Game at some point. Other then that I can't think of one atm...

I think Sket Dance may have done that at one point. Maybe Gintama as well, though I'm not totally sure.

Cool, thanks. I figured there had to be at least few out there. I think it's most often used for comedic effect. It can be pretty funny when used sparingly.

I think Foolie Coolie does a lot.

Gintama doesn't just break the fourth wall, it blows it up, pushes the rubble into the see, then salts the earth.

Violinist of Hameln also does it.

All of Adachi's work seems to do it. With the mangaka making frequent appearances, and the characters joking about not knowing each others names since they look like his other characters.http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=85 You can pretty much just point and click and you will find them. H2, Katsu, and Cross Game have it a bit more often, I believe, than some of his other works.

does the times when the characters admit to being in a manga count?
(stuff like them saying 'but this is a manga')

an example is in pheromomania syndrome. where they keep wandering if the stuff in there should be featured in a shoujo manga...(yuu watase also does that in alice 19th though not as frequently as in pheromomania though...)
