I'm looking forward to the movie just to see what its like!
However, I'm not sure about having Zac Efron as Light. I think physically he looks like Light but just from seeing other movies he's in I don't think he can pull of the twisted, manipulating, scheming character Light is.

there are still HSM fangirls? I thought they cared about the Jonas Bros now and Miley Cyrus and stuff...

90% of the time, they butcher it and screw up royally. Let's hope this movie is part of the 10% that isn't butchered. If they do butcher it, I will write its name in my movie edition Death Note and tell everyone I know to treat it like a plague.
I agree that this Zac guy looks similar to Light, but Light's personality is extremely twisted and dark. I doubt this guy can pull it off unless he really watches the show and reads the comic, maybe watching The Omen a few times might help since Damien is similar to Light in terms of personality. The maniacal part of Light is almost impossible to pull off. For the poor guy playing as L, I send him my sympathy. L is unique in every sense of the word.
@Masami Akane: Don't set your hopes too high or you will probably be disappointed. Most Japanese-American conversions end with the American conversion being a horrible mess that makes a train derailment look great in comparison.

Black is best known as a screenwriter, responsible for Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad and The Last Boy Scout (among others). He also made his directing debut with 2005's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, for which he also provided the script.

They´re saying that the director Shane Black choose the proyect because he loves to read manga and Death Note is his favorite one so there´s hope... I hope they choose great actors and music!

well,as long as they(american cineast)follow the story it can work.i`ll look forwar to it but it`s cause death note was great.

i love death note but i think a AMERICAN version will suck so bad. it will make death note fans barf from the horibbleness, it will ruin death note for everyone.

gosh...I heard of this..it's gonna be a nightmare unless they somehow magically pull it off
which I highly doubt they'll be able to do and I really can't see zac as a cold calculating genius serial killer...he'll probably turn it into some ....
