I know. x) I want ZAC EFRON to be the yandere. Because usually does friendly, perfect-personality characters, him suddenly doing someone manipulative and cruel will be brilliant. C:

People will mostly watch it out of curiosity.
I probably won't, not a big fan of Death Note.
I also conclude people will not like it. America will probably slaughter it to 'death.'
Ha-ha. Pun.

The only actor I can think off the top of my head to be suited for Light's personality is Leonardo DiCaprio... Perhaps if he were 10 years younger
Either way it has to be someone who's smart (or at least gives the feeling the he is) and is used to acting in shades of grey

why is this such a big deal
the fans have 2 japanese made death note movies that all did well and one spinoff movie about L so 3...
watch them and be happy
we all know that american remakes suck hard
Godzilla
The Eye[so in a way its based on a american idea...but the american version that did come was so bad even jessica alba should feel ashamed...and she was in F4silver surfer lol]
Dark Water
Ring
Shall we dance
even Lion King feels like a bad and boring version of kimba the white lion
and maybe the worst of all Dragon Ball evolution...omg
and many many more

Guess Efron as Light is better than Bieber as Light.
Heck, anyone, even Efron would be better than Bieber. = _ =

Quote from Director: Warner's Death Note Is Still in the Works
Director Shane Black confirmed at his Long Beach Comic Con panel on Saturday that Warner Brothers' planned live-action film adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's manga Death Note is still in the works. However, Black added that the project was in jeopardy because the studio initially wanted to lose "the demon [Ryuk]. [They] don't want the kid to be evil…. They just kept qualifying it until it ceased to exist."
Black said that "the creation of a villain, the downward spiral" of the main character Light has been restored in the script, and added that this is what the film should be about.
Warner Brothers hired Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; writer of the Lethal Weapon film series) to direct Death Note, shortly before Marvel Studios revealed that Black would also direct Iron Man 3. Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry were slated to write the Death Note project's script.
Warner Bros. had acquired the rights to the series from previous rights-owner Vertigo Entertainment in 2009. At the time, screenwriter brothers Vlas and Charles Parlapanides were attached to the project.

Adam Wingard, the director best known for The Guest and You're Next, has signed on to direct the American remake of Death Note.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wingard will start work on Death Note once he's finished with his current project, The Woods. Both Shane Black and Gus Van Sant were previously rumoured to be connected to the flick.
The most recent draft of the script was written by Jeremy Slater, who's also penned the screenplay for the Fantastic Four reboot. Whether this is the one Wingard chooses to go with remains to be seen.
