Quote from anthon41772
(quote by Gray)I download everything in the genres that I like and then I sort through the crap. BL and Josei, mostly--and no, I don't want to hear your opinions about BL. (/quote)

Okay this is not an opinion or sarcasm but WTH is BL??

I Might be interested if the series is good confused

It's a genre, boys' love.

I'd go for the description, or recommendations. They're the best way to find out about what the manga is really about.. for me, anyway.

Description would be the main thing. Even if it was popular or recommended, if the description isn't much appealing, then, i would pass :/

I guess my first criteria is genre as well... There are some genres that I just don't read, although eventually I might start reading them. I suppose next would be the frequency of releases, because I want to have a hope of finishing a manga. I'm already reading at least 80 series at the moment (see my list). sad

Recommendations don't really work for me, because chances are I've already read it.

I choose my Manga mainly by Genre. But occasionally I'll go by Description of it. I mean, If I find an interesting looking Manga I'll read the description. If it sounds sucky, I'll put down the manga and have a friend read it.
Then, If they like it, I'll try it out.

Actually I'm not sure if it would count as "by description" or "by genre", it's kind of both at the same time. If I don't recognize a title as something I've already looked at, I'll check out the info page for a description... but if it's a genre I don't read, then I don't bother reading the description because I know it's not something I want to read.

If it sounds halfway interesting, I'll read it. After all, it's free, what I have I got to lose?

My process: (1)title (2)image/art (3)genre (4)description (5)and repeat steps 1-5 several times a week until eyes are glazed and golden brown. For crispier corneas repeat steps 1-5 in one minute intervals for 30 minutes.

(P.S. my eyes are blue)

Depends on my mood, usually. My general process is Scanlator first, though. I didn't use Baka Updates until recently so it'd just be easier to see all my manga descriptions in the same place before trotting off to <that place everyone downloads manga>. Plus, a lot of scanlators fixate on a certain author/genre anyway. I'd say all the psychological/horror manga tends to be scanlated by the same groups. Then I sort it out by generes I like and read descriptions, and if I find a manga I really like I'll check out the other stuff by that mangaka and in that anthology.Seems to work out okay for me. I've found some really good stuff that nobody else seems to hear of.

generally i try to look for those which have been completed over ones still ongoing
that way read the story without having to wait to find out what happens next
